Default SOHC ZC Thread

How many people out there have a SOHC ZC? I have one in my 88 CRX Si and it pulls hard as hell. What modifications have you guys done?

I have a couple of questions sorry if this is the wrong thread.
I am getting a crx si with a blown motor for a daily driver. I am between a stock d16a6 and a sohc zc. so heres the question is there a huge difference? and i know its pretty much pluyg and play for either motor but do i need a different ecu for both '
thanks foir any help

The SI ECU will work fine with both. I think the only major difference between the D16a6 and the SOHC ZC is that the ZC has a more agressive cam.

I have a SOHC ZC as well and I think the main reason is its pretty inexpensive and easy to do. I'm hoping to turbo mine pretty soon as well.

I have the SOHC ZC cam in my D15B1 head. The profile is much more agressive than the original (an extra 3 or 4 mm height on each lobe). Pair that with an MPFI swap and you pretty much have a SOHC ZC. With the cams being interchangable you can see that there probably isn't much of a difference between a D16A6 and the JDM SOHC ZC.

so save the money and find a good d16a6 or go sohc zc swap? That is my real issue and wanted to know if the power/reliability was worth the money, and the ability to turbo the motor on all stock internals.

Im getting a SOHC ZC from HMO, and I plan on putting a T25 turbo on it. In theory it should make 150 to 160 HP, and thats alot in a CRX or Hatch. Plus its like $160 cheaper than the DOHC ZC and its only a factory 10HP difference between the two. For bang for your buck, its the SOHC ZC all the way.

By the way kool thread, nice to have some SOHC D sreries disscusion.

Were you able to just use the zc cam gear when you put that in? I really want to get rid of that d15b1 "fuel efficent" cam

Hey question, can I use D16a6 pistons in a SOHC ZC, I want to get forged pistons and rods before I slap the turbo on?

I got my SOHC ZC cam off of ebay. It dropped right into my D15B1. This was the first mod I did to my engine and even with the DPFI there was a noticable difference. I did my MPFI swap and an intake and my engine sounds sweet. Unfortunately I never had access to a dyno so I can't give any real numbers. But if you're looking for a few extra horse than pick up a zc cam. I know that the lift on the ZC cam is definitely higher than the D16A6 cam.
