*Question regarding positioning of clutch cable*
I was wondering if anyone had a spare moment, could they take some pictures of how the clutch cable enters the engine bay, and how the clutch cable enters the pedal assembly? I am looking at the helms manual and its not too clear.
In the process of an auto-to-manual swap and I just want to make sure I will be making the hole in the right spot.
The car is an 88 civic hatchback, if that makes any difference.
TIA,
j

I pm-ed a guy who has done this and
he said there was a hole there already..
Probably has a rubber plug in it...Does yours have a hole there?

This is my car...
underneath the hood:
by the pedal assembly, i think thats the rubber plug that you are referring to.

looking at this pic here:

by that hole, i see two spot welds that are also there on my car. I guess I just drill http://is.rely.net/1-870-14340...there and pass the cable thru the rubber plug?

Yours looks just a little different...
Those are all '88 CRXs btw so your results might vary..
You basically will want it to be in a straight line with the
point it attaches to the clutch pedal.. as straight as possible..
Man..Good Luck, Maybe someone with the same model will post up.

Can you take a pic but a little farther away.
I have done a conversion on a 1990 crx, and to my knowledge all cars that are auto should already have the hole on the firewall. Honda made it like this to save money and time.
I really hate to think your gonna have to drill a hole because the spot is so tight, I can't imagine what you can get in that space, plus the firewall is not easy to drill threw.

I just converted my 91 hb into a manual. the pics 88dxcrx sent u of where the plug is are right. My car had the plug in the came place as his pics. from looking at yur pics yur car is quiet a bit different under the hood than mine r u sure its not an 87? but anyways id try poping the plug that is pictured in your first pic and c if that works. I strongly recomend using 88dxcrx webpage http://hometown.aol.com/jrmupzaii/auto2man.html as a guide to help u along the conversion. I know it saved my when it came to the wiring
.
Good luck and I hope u have as much fun as i did when changingn the pedals lol

yeah, i know my car is an 88. its what i said in the first post of this thread.
the car may look different to some of you because it is stripped. there are no fuel lines, currently no pedals, no harness etc...
Here are some further away pictures of inside the car as well as under the hood.
Thanks

You are here-by known as the man with "No hole..."
You have the dash out? looks like...
I would bolt up the pedals and use a straight edge to pin-point a place to drill..

A little more "food for thought.."
Looking at the pic of the white car, there is a tube or tunnel
between the inner and outer firewall sheet metal
which the cable goes through..
I would imagine this also serves as a reinforcement to keep
the firewall from flexing when you push down on the clutch pedal..
In addition to making the hole for the cable to pass through,
You might consider some sort of reinforcement between the
inner and outer firewall or some external bracing or bracket in the engine bay..
follow what I am saying?

Did u trying looking from the inside? It shuld be really easy to spot from the inside its just above and to the clutch pedal. Id take a pic but i dont have a digital camera. If its not there then I guess [QUOTE=88DXCRX]You are here-by known as the man with "No hole..."

Looks good...
If you do get any flex in the firewall,
You could probably fasten the cable down to the shock tower
with a bolt and a cable clamp something like this:
