Default RAcing shox ...where to get at a reasonable price!! ???

i am on a seriously limited budget..and i am looking for good shocks that would work good with a limited movement lenght ..

i do not need 3 levels of adjusment but 2 would be nice (bound and rebound)

i do not really care about the type of attachements as i'll jsut do custom mounts for them if i can findgood shox at reasonable price

this is for a 97 lude..

i'm not gonna run anything more than 6-700lbs/" springs..

would it be wise to purchase used shocks ?
like 1 year or 1 season old?

what should i be looking for ?

need as much info as i can gather

thanks..

Describe "seriously limited budget" and you're likely to get more useful responses. Seriously limited is $5000 for some people and $500 for others. What is the upper range you can afford?

Off the self Koni Yellows are supposed to be able to take up to 600# springs. The Ground Control / Koni setup can be had for under $1000. That is probably the best price/performance racing setup you can get.

I am about to pick up a 400/550-600 GC/Koni setup for the Integra. Then next year revalve and shotren the Konis to run higher rates.

I've got Koni Yellows on my NSX, and I'm seriously NOT impressed with their inability to damp even 325/425 at low amounts of suspension travel. It also sucks to not be able to adjust compression. If you're gonna get Konis, add an extra $100/shock to have 'em custom valved.

I think Ground Control Advance Design shocks would be worth looking into. Independantly rebound and compression adjustable, and I'm sure you can get them with shorter bodies to fit your application at no extra charge. I even saw an ad in the latest SportsCar magazine saying they're $399/pair (which I'm guessing is probably a typo, since the website still says $399/shock) but it wouldn't hurt to ask).

I've never run the GCAD shocks, but they come highly recommended (for the money, they're obviously not as good as Penskes or JRZs, but they cost less than half) from the chassis engineer that I've been consulting with on my NSX. And if my budget / driving habits ever allow / require better shocks, I'll give them a try.

yes the advance design shocks from GC..
i thought about thoose for some time..

+ they have application for prelude 97+ ehhe

but still they are 400$ EACH + 50$ ERS spring ..

my budget would be more like sub 1000$ for new stuff
and sub 5-600 for used stuff

I'm running a GC ERS coilever at 500f/600r with a set of Bilsteins valved for my Type R. They are not adjustable, however, the are "self adjusting" . My experience is that at a very reasonable price I got an extremely well mannerd suspension on the track.

There is a guy in PA that will re-valve and add adjustablilty for a reasonale price, but when he heard my spring rates, he said I really did not need to deal with that until I went up several hundred pounds in rate.

I am running the Bilstien Type R sports as well with 400/500 and they are really good for the money.

The shocks and the GC's can be had for $850 shipped from shoks.com and groundcontrol.com

I would suggest having them send 6" sleeves in the front instead of the 4" ones in their kit. I don't think that they will charge you for this.

Alas it is a type-o. They are $399 each.

Diablo Autosport sells the Koni Yellows for $500/set. I doubt you will find them cheaper.

the problem with koni yellows is that they aren' good at all stock to run fwith 5-600 lbs

they will work but at their stiffest setting
and that's not optimal ..and doesn't give lot's of adjustability
