Default Crx si kicked the bucket, swap expedited...... y8 Sohc vtec specific swap questions, help needed.

Ok, on my way to work today the car died again..... I tried to start it, and it sounds like it is backfiring a little and wont run. The ignition, complete dist, dist cap, wires, plugs, etc are all brand new (a whole other story). Anyways, It is acting like it is out of time, has jumped time, or something. The motor has 178k miles on it now, and has been buring oil for some time, so I purchased a sohc vtec from a 98 civic ex to slap into the car. I am going to do the obd1 conversion and have bought the conversion harness from blownhatch to do the install. I am going to repin the injectors, y8 distributor, and add the 8 wires to complete the sohc swap. One question,

1. For the injector resistor do I just unhook it, or do I have to connect the incoming wires to the resistor box with the outgoing ones (Like making a wiring loop)?

2. Installing the waterpump, I have heard several people mention hondabond when doing a waterpump. Is this like a silicone based gasket material or something similar to the mr gasket (gasket material)? I have a new timing belt as well

3. where can I get a tranny bearing alignment tool, my new clutch,pp and bearings didnt come with the tool?

4. I have the prothane motor mounts, I know many of you have said they make you feel the motors movements and dont recommend using the whole set for a daily driver. Is it the general consensus to install just the rear prothane motor mount?

5. Does anyone have the dist pinout/wiring diagram? Wanna make sure when converting the dist from the y8 to the a6 wiring harness that i dont cross any wires

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.
Steven

That pic is from the Distr side comming into the plug. Match the colors up to that.

sweet, thanks bro.

I think I found out the problem today. I took the valve cover off, took the top timing cover off and turned the cam gear to align the timing marks even with the top of the head. According to my manual, at that point the crank pulley is supposed to be aligned with the red mark etched on the pulley. The lower pully is about an inch and a half clockwise past the red mark. I grabbed where the belt sits on the cam gear and I can slide the belt almost completely off the gear with little effort. I could probably take it off, and put it back on without loosening the tensioner.

Sooooo..... My thinking is the timing belt slipped and jumped a few teeth. I was told the timing belt was brand new when i bought the car, and I pulled the cover off the top and it looked pretty new. The napa emblems imprinted on it looked in pretty good shape. Anyways, I have only put 30 k on it since I bought it, but that puts the grand total up to 178k miles.

I am picking up the engine hoist, 4 wire o2 sensor, some extra wire, a clutch bearing alignment tool, and a few other odds and ends and I am gonna start yanking the old and dropping in the new on thursday.

I am sure I will be hitting you guys up for info part way through, so be ready.

Damn, what happened to the pic????

Well i got the old motor out and the new one in and bolted in place. New clutch and all in the tranny. You know the clutch alignment tool that comes in the honda clutch kits and is sold at discount and autozone is the wrong size.....

I had to use one for a ford pinto I knew there was a reason to create those hideous cars

Anyways, I have to get the wiring taken care of and the vacuum hoses connected and I will be in business.

I was even able to leave my ac lines/compressor intact in the car just took a little manuvering to get everything in place.
