Default Dyno'd my GS-R w/Toda A's

Hey guys. Yesterday I made a trip to the dyno w/some homemadeturbo.com dudes and was finally able to tune my setup, which is:

'98 GS-R w/71k miles
[USDM B18C1]
3" Ebay Intake
Stock TB
AN-R IM
Hondata IM Gasket
Toda Spec A Camshafts
ITR Valvetrain
Skunk2 Cam Gears
Really Dented JDM DC Header
Carsound 2.5" Cat
Tanabe Racing Medallion
Tuned w/Ubderdata on a p28
Stock block btw

Here's a graph...

As you can see from the graph my max was 171.7 whp and 129.2 tq. I was hoping for 180's but I can't really complain with the stock TB and a header that gets slammed on all types of stuff. The car as a whole runs a lot nicer and as you can see, that torque spike was fixed. How do the numbers look to you guys?

Oh yeah and last but not least, I want to give a huge thanks to Jeff (AbaZ), Dave (Leed), and Jay (dunno his name on here), for really improving the way my car runs. They really know their sh*t when it comes to tuning . We might've had more to gain, but I had to do it in 5 runs because we discovered that my pass. side front wheel was bent.

Also, props to the guys at the dyno (Marysville Speed and Custom) for not being ********. It's a primarily domestic shop, but they seemed happy for us import heads to be there (10 or so of us must've dyno'd), and gave us a great deal.

AN-R IM is that Blox?

Vey nice numbers, what was your A/F like?

I have a very similar setup, BC 3+ for cams

Is this tune off limits? If not, I'd be interested to have a look into that bin file.

AN-R claims that the IM flows superior to the Skunk2, Blox, and other similar IM's, but I'm convinced its the same... great price though. A/F is low 13's I believe. The wideband was hooked w/datalogging off a laptop, which is why it's not on the printout. The tune is definitely not off limits, it'd be lame not to share knowledge. I'll try getting the file from Dave, when I can.

One of them is up, with some crazy sh*t on it. Check it out over at HMT. Leia's car did 470-ish whp

I went untuned and did really poorly. I think it's my driving though because I was getting mid 15's with 92-93 mph traps. I need more seat time... I've got an ITR tranny now w/LSD so hopefully my launches will be better

dude toss that tb, get rid of that shitty header and get rid of that pos exhaust, and youl out down alot better numbers, but right now id be kinda dissapointed to be puttin down what stock type r motors put down

also dont listen to these people saying to mill your head or all that ****, if you really want to up your compression just get a high comp headgasket

but if i were you i whould saved the money i spent on modding the gsr motor, and sold the gsr motor and bought a type r motor and then mod that motor

and you really need to work on those 1/4 mile times
my stock r with a intake ran a 14.2 @98.9 mph with a 2.2 60ft
so with the mods you have listed you should be about where my car is, maybe a little bit slower

The TB is gonna be gone asap. It was supposed to be swapped for a JDM ITR TB BEFORE dyno day but the guy that's selling it didn't come through in time... still waiting for it actually. The header and exhaust are probably going to stay unless I get a good deal on both, money needs to go elsewhere at the moment.

What shell did you run that ET with? That's a pretty damn good time, especially if you mean in a full interior ITR. Nobody runs those times at the nearest drag strip. Like I said, I need more practice at the track, which is shitty to begin with. I'm going to the track with a full interior GS-R btw... approx 2800 lbs.

Also, keep in mind that we only had 5 runs to tune with, and I'm sure more experimenting would've yielded better results. Besides, it's not about a peak number usually, but about the power curve. Granted, I am pretty disappointed I didn't pull anything higher, I don't think it's all bad.

The head has been removed and resurfaced, but that doesn't really count, so yeah it's stock.

Damn I suppose so haha. I'm 5'8" and 160 lbs. Props on the times. The fasted I've heard of an R go w/out NOS or modded internals was 14.5, my friend's NBP ITR w/AEM CAI, JDM ITR Header, Carsound Cat, and 2.5" test pipe. Maybe the drag strip here (Pacific Raceways) is just shitty or something, nobody runs the times they expect.

BTW, a local shop (Intec Racing for all you WA heads) is having a cheap dyno day this saturday. I'm trying to get my TB before then, and possibly drop either the rear section or the whole exhaust and go dyno and see if I get any improvement.

actually I say thats a pretty good output comsidering he has a slammed header and stock motor.

alfaaay, which header are you using ? good results for whatever its worth. yup, milled head will yield slight bump in compression, you'd need to advance both camgears to compensate.

LOL, RAISE YOUR CAR UP!

I have a JDM ITR header and I NEVER bottom out with it. I did buy the stock skid plate just in case, but ive yet to scratch it on anything.

Also, you said you are trapping @ 92-93 MPH?

REally your driving isnt going to get you faster trap speeds just quicket ETs. With those traps you should be turning out low 15s, high 14s. IM be happy with a 14.9 if i traped @ 92MPH.

I'm using a JDM DC header. It's held up like a champ for what its been through. I really appreciate the input btw. Milling the head, well, upping the compression in any way would be sweet, but I don't wanna modify the head like that, since I'd like to boost eventually.

I'm not aiming for higher trap speeds, I want lower ETs. I'm just saying that they are somewhat of an indication of what types of ETs I should be getting. If I can do 14's consistently, then I'll be satisfied.
