Default Type R owner thinking of buying CRX w/b16

Wll I found this on the parts trader, and I am looking for a second car, and the CRX looks like alot of fun to drive, especially with a b16 in it, well here is a list of what the car has, and what the car needs:

Need to sell asap:

1988 Honda CRX Si
JDM B16A
JDM S1 transmission
JDM Mugen headgasket
JDM Mugen radiator cap
JDM Mugen thermostat
Speed Garage mount kit
Speed Garage adjustable shift linkage
Spoon Sports chipped ECU
Clutchmasters Stage1 clutch (brand new)
Iceman cold air intake
Comptech Type-R header
B&M fuel pressure regulator
Intrax lowering spring
Tokico shocks
Pioneer cd player headunit
Boston Acoustics speakers
Autometer tach, oil, and elec. fuel pressure guages

The car was originally silver and I had it painted about four years ago to a lighter silver. The odometer reads 128,000 miles. What the car needs:

new axles
new mount kit (or a new front mount from Speed Garage)
both bumpers and the sunroof need painted
the seats need to be resewn on the outside edges

I love this car I just dont have money for it any more. I am asking $4200 but the price is negotiable. Thanks
now I just have some questions for some CRX owners, have many of you done the B16 swap, is the car fun to drive. just general opinion questions

thanks--------------------------------M

I shall rephrase my response from before: I don't have my b16 running yet but I rode in a 5th gen hatch with a b16 and it was pretty quick so you can think of what that would be like in the lighter crx.

hmm... i would try and bring down the price som esp with that much bodywork needed. i've never ridden in a b16 CRX so i couldnt tell you what its like but i wouldnt expect too much out of it. i would expect it to be 'peppy.' i'm currently workin on a fully built b20 swap myself. i'll let you know how that feels when its done in about may i think.

I'd sell it for $50 because of the mod I had done to it... <Cost me $20 and a 6 pack at a local machine shop for the strengthening>

I had "webbings" added to the circular par of the mount to prevent it from doing this again... This one held up forabout 4 months... the one I had modded looks NEW after being used for 1.5 years with a stage 4ish CM clutch.

Go to autozone.

Trade in the old ones for core.

$69 a side, you'll need 2. 90-93 integra axles w/o ABS. LIFETIME WARRANTY

WARNING!!!! You need a new mount kit! Speed garge kits are a red flag! Replace with hasport, no alternatives! You may be able to find a used hasport kit since they came out with the new billet ones, maybe some stupid people will want something shiny, and sell their old kits. As for the car I would offer 3200 firm (at the most), because you'd have another 1000 into it easy right after buying it.

B16 CRX= Really fun to drive, especially with the list of mods he has there. I wouldnt offer more than 3200-3500 or so though,bc of the work it needs to get it running..

nice mounts are expensive or I guess you could go with the Speed Garage ?? mounts
seems like it might need some bodywork besides paint
axles-hybrid axles-relatively cheaper or sir axles can be expensive

but granted, there is a good amount of money in it also, and most hybrid owners have problems with selling their project..

Vegeta,

After owning 3 CRX's, I would have to say they are the most fun I have ever had. I currently have a B16a in mine, and it is REALLY fast and is great w/ handling. The 2 seats have their advantages (on a date, dont have to worry about someone trying to jump in the back seat if you and your girl want to be alone), and disadvantages (I have no clue what they might be, but). Hope it helps.

Jonathan

You will have a little money and some labor in the axles and the mount kit. I have heard horror stories of the old Speed Garage mount kits. They were supposed to not line the axles up properly so sometimes they ate axles. (hint, hint) The only real confusion is the front mount. Most people don't use them anyway. MY hcp kit is great, I did not use it. I know of more hcp and hasports in cars without the use of the front mount. See if you can check out someones b16ef to compare.

I ran the speed garage's for 2 and a half years and only broke one axle when I was autocrossing and DUMPED the stage 4 clutch in the middle of a 360 degree turn, snapping it right to bits.

I never had any other problems with them besides, because they are adjustable, they'd work their way loost after HARD driving about every 6 months I needed to tighten the 2 bolts on the transmission.

No big deal. They just got a bad rap.

I wanted the Hasports because i couldn't see the Speed garage mounts holding up to the 350-400 HP i want to make

I spent like three weeks of nights trying to get that f*&%in mount kit too come even close to lining up, and the front mount was never close to being able to go in. Hasport is the next best thing to factory, maybe even better?!! There's simply no other logical choice here, even vs. the new HCP mounts. Those are just bad rip-offs of the Hasport kit.

I was going to do that...then I remember that I dont have a place to pull my motor, I'm too lazy to do it, I like having ulgy *** orange urethane mounts under my hood, nothing is wrong with them, they say Hasport on them and I'm happy, orange goes well with chrome....wait a second, we were talking about how the new kits were good, not the bad ones

If someone wants to help me lift my B16a up, I'll sell the orange urethanes

Do you have any idea what your talking about? HCP had the first bolt in mount kit on the market. BEFORE the Hasport. HCPs have 4 mounts, and the motor does sit slightly different. Personally i wouldnt buy anything but HCP, but dont get me wrong the new Hasport billet mounts look excellent.

I don't know what I'm talking about?!?!? Beleive what you want, but why would you want (regarding first/second gen mounts) mounts that are infinetly adjustable, and never to the right spot? Just because it was the first doesn't make it the best, and it's clear just looking at the mounts that the Hasport are quite superior to the HCP mounts (any variation) in construction and quality. I don't know if you are aware, but the front mount is not necessary with the Hasport, because they constructed the rear mount to accomodate for the lack of the front one. This can also be seen in many racecars, Mugen, Spoon, they tend to beef up all the other mounts to eliminate the front mounts in newer generations of cars. Some even go so far as to remove the front crossmember all together.

Sorry to clog your thread with this, but it bothers me to see fellow CRX'ers waste money on something like this. As I said before, if you did the work yourself, probably about 4-700 to get it up and runing (depending if you buy used mounts or not). It's really not all that much work either. Expect to put around a 1000 + or - to get it all tidy and clean looking (painting bumpers, etc..).

I'd like to add another thought-the trans is geared pretty shortly, so if you have a long commute, the highway revs can be pretty annoying. My commute in to work is about an hour, and I have a fairly loud exhaust. I drive at 80 mph and my tach sits at around 5k. I can't imagine taking this thing on longer trips without going deaf.
