Default Help ID-ing a genuine ITR clutch/PP/Flywheel.

I've searched and found nothing (that helps). I also posted a question in the ITR forum, but those guys seem too busy finding new ways to put 'R' into thread topics to answer an ITR related tech question.

Help me if you can !

I am trying to buy a used ITR PP/flywheel from someone who bought a JDM engine. However, when I saw the PP up close, I read P72 on one of the fingers and 87 right under it on the same finger.

Some of the threads I found said something to the affect that P72 might be ok... but the ITR is supposed to be PR3 no ? I know the clutch disc might be the same... but my concern is the PP and flywheel. The flywheel only seemed to have a stamped 2 on the inner circle. It 'felt' light, but I haven't held a stock B flywheel for over 2 years... so I might be off.

So what are the markings to look for ?

Here are some pictures of the the ITR flywheel. The backside of the flywheel has been machined, because about 3-3.5 lbs. has been removed from the stock B-series flywheel. There should also be a few holes on the backside machined face (see picture), because the flywheel has been balanced.

I will see if I can find some photos on the pressure plate. I installed an new ITR flywheel, pressure plate and clutch disk in my '94 GS-R about 2 years ago, but I don't remember if there was any identifying marks on the pressure plate. The PP part number is 22300-P73-025, so it might have a P73 stamped on it.

OK, I found a few picture of used ITR pressure plates. I'm not sure if it will help you.

Thanks for the pics.

The flywheel didn't have the balancing holes as far as I remember (shoulda thought of that...) But the marking in the casting on the inner circumference of the one I saw said '2', not like what's in your pics.

But as far as the PP... the one I saw did not have the marking on the outside of your pics... BUT... the P72 I saw on it was on the inner side of the finger (other side of what's in your pics).

P72=GS-R/SiR-G (Japanese version of GS-R, FYI)
P73=Type-R
PR3=SiR B16

now, sometimes parts are interchanged, so the GS-R and Type-R may have the same pressure plate, in which case P72 on the pressure plate is fine. but yes, Type-R flywheel is definitely different, and should be a few pounds lighter. just check the flywheel. if it's legit, then go for it. if it's not, the guy is either a liar, so don't buy from him, or he doesn't know what he has (and it isn't good stuff), so don't buy from him.

Well... the P72 marking bothers me... since my gsr engine is P72... I don't wanna buy a stock PP... lol

But can anyone confirm that the ITR PP would say P73 ?

And as far as those balancing drill holes... the fly defenitely didn't have em.... sux for me.
