From: Warning, gRand Return imminent,, NY, USA
I went out to Brooklyn yesterday to chill with Bbasso. We hung out got some sandwiches watched some TV yada yada. I left around 4 and after about 45 minutes of down town traffic made my way back to the burbs.
2 blocks from my GF's house my CEL came on and my car bogs down. No problem, happens from time to time. Pull over, turn the car off, pop the hood. My J's intake from time to time rubs my plug wires loose of the distributor. Figured it was the same situation this time. I pop the hood and surprisingly everything is in place and connected. ****, now what. Call the GF tell her to bring some sockets so I can get the plug cover off. She shows up and I start pulling all the plugs out one by one to check for spark. All the plugs are fine and I'm firing on all 4 cylinders.
****, now what? The most random things ran thru my head while trying to diagnose it. Since it would still fire up I figured whatever damage that was done was done and I drove it and parked it at my gf's house.
ECU jumping revealed a CEL 9. I was right, dizzy is fugged.
So, today I woke up and got to work. Took the cap off and the problem was plain as day. Ask my friend to half crank the motor so I could get the rotor screw to become exposed to take it off. Cranked it once and a huge empty space appeared. The screw was gone
I removed the rotor and found this

Still no screw in sight. Upon further investigation I found the screw wedged inside the dizzy, stuck to the magnet.

Everything in the dizzy seemed to be okay. The screw had on scraped a tiny bit of the magnet, and since I had a spare cover and rotor screw from my last call to Len I cleaned off whatever shavings were in there and slapped some new pieces in.
New Cover thingy

New Rotor Screw

Put everything pack, connect the battery and start her up. Clean start no problem, then the CEL starts blinking. F$%#&! Mother F@*#@*)!*!!!
Seems as though the minor scraped and gouges from the screw were worse than I thought
So, I did the only thing I could do on a Sunday afternoon when parts is closed,

Tomorrow I'll go to my local dealer, grab a rotor and see if that's the problem. If not, I'll be calling Len for a new dizzy

holy ****, believe it or not...that was the same **** that happend to me! the dam screw was stuck in that thing....good luck man, i had to get a new dizzy too my bearing was screwed up...good luck
Check the resistance of your ignition coil and ignitor while you're in there. Could be one of those components going bad as well.
Not only is Distributor King much cheaper than OEM, they make a better dizzy. I have their dizzy on my R and on my ita crx. They use better bearings than OEM and should be less susceptible to burning out the igniter, which is a weak spot on hondas.
Oh, and DK is also a long-time ITRCA sponsor!

Ouch....Mine did the same thing. The same screw came out and killed the cap, rotor, and a component inside. Ended up getting a new distributor from Distributor King, it has been running good for the last 2 years...

Yup, it's a well known fact that the rotor screw = t3h svck!

I've been running their regular distributor for ~2.5 years now, which includes the last 2 expos.

yea that sucks dude. Hope this isn't gonna cost you too much money. I might be looking to replace my "dizzy" soon to cause its making some noise while the engine is warming up.
Same thing happened to Tbone on his now legendary motor. When I changed my cap and rotor during routine maintenance on the ITR, the rotor screw was loose and ready to fall out
