why don't you put a turbo on an h22a and forget about supercharging it cuz its lame.. and do a 200 shot.. because nx makes a 200shot plate system for the h22a.. those are my plans anyways
Well...
Conventional wisdom dictates that the Sol is a bit on the heavy side for a B16A. However, folks like Frank Lin would say otherwise (his gutted sol w/ not much for mods is pretty damn quick). It would still be a fun car, but not overly fast.
The upside to the b16 is lower cost and availability (jdm b16's are fairly abundant)
The B18C would geive you 10 hp more out of the box, plus a good deal more torque. It will cost more and is a bit harder to find, although USDM B18's are more abundant than USDM B16's.
H22 would be way fast, but handling will be comprimised a bit. H22 hybriders claim that the understeer problem isn't nearly as bad as everyone thinks. I don't know first hand though.
so there.

well I own a del Sol VTEC model with the b16a3 in it. For the most part it is a quick car. It depends on what you want to do? Street race or drag race? Auto cross? Consider your final goals. A b18C1 would be nice because of more torque than the b16 and more horsepower but will cost more. A guy I know around here put a H23 in a 92 hatch and runs 13.6-13.7 1/4 mile on street tires with bolt ons. Pretty potent combo and it was cheap, and I wonder what times you could get in a Sol.? Only thing is with that combo you don't have the joy of VTEC.
thanks for all ur reply but still what type of work am i looking at with the h22a motor dose it just go right in fine or dose it need some work coversing and what about the b18 or b16
are u sure thats it what about the motor mounts my chassie and how hevy it is and what do u mean about moving the firewall
given that del sol's are heavier than other civic's, B16 wouldn't be that much of a kick to drive (unless heavily moded). B18C1 is probably your best bet if you will be road racing and auto x-ing. also, B18C1 is a good motor to biuld upon (great for turbo), good for your overall weight distribution, and has more torque than B16.
if you're going to use this car only on street (dragging, light to light, eventhough i'm against that) H22A is perfect for you. lots of torque to move that heavy crx of yours and good top end as well. it's not going to handle as well as with a B series motor, but it will be faster. you will need a mount kit though. H22A is good for nitrous because of that big displacement, although i wouldn't recomend a 200 shot like someone mentioned before. i personaly wouldn't go the s/c route, i'd rather save up some more $$ and get a turbo. so if you decide to go turbo B18C1 is your motor!
so it all depends on your personal taste, use of the car and budget.
i would personaly go with H22 with some nitrous, because i don't really go auto x-ing or road racing. but you decide for yourself. you can't really go wrong with any of the above mentioned engines. good luck and speed safe.

no powersteering pump either...does not make for a good everyday drive...go with a B18 if u must..from here the fit just get tighter..
try to build up a 99 up CRV engine with a b16 or b18 head. CRV engines seem to be a dime a dozen. Hell, save the money on the vtec head, and buy some forged rods, then you could boost the hell out of it...

Speedsol I think you should learn some more about cars and motors before you jump into anything, posting 20 times on honda-tech in one day is not going to be the answer your looking for..........
yup..... don't expect people here to decide for you... what may be good for me, may not be good for you. people have different tastes and opinions about swaps.
there are tons of options for you.... you can get any B series motor, you can go LS/VTEC, CRV/VTEC, H23, H22, you go turbo, all motor, s/c, nitrous, and so on and so forth. it's all really up to you.
here is what you should do:
1. decide on exactly what the car will be used for
2. decide if you would like to go f/i or all motor, or just leave the motor stock
3. decide on how much is the most you want/can to spend on the swap
4. how much you can spend on maintanence of the motor thereafter
5. who else would be driving the car besides you (you don't want to loan your B18C
turbo del sol boosting 15lbs to you granny or something)
6. how fast do you want to go, ***** out or just average hybrid.
once you get all these down, come back and then ask for opinions. in the mean time do more research on prices, engine specs, labor costs, reliability issues, etc...
otherwise, you're wasting your time here.
