Default Exhaust Install write-up and review (HKS)

Alright this is for all those newbees that keep on asking questions about installs and yada yada...... i just installed my exhaust and here is the write up... pictures are also encluded... it took me about ehhh 15 minutes to do the exhaust. it's quite simple.. also keep in mind this is the HKS exhaust and other exhaust are a little differnt on how many bolts, but you'll get the idea from this....

Pics of the exhaust. as you can see it's a 4 piece exhauxst, 2 pipes and 2 muffler sections. however i bought this exhaust used so the piping is already put together. the two pipes were put together with 2 bolts. (keep in mind exhaust like the invidia is a two piece, one part piping and one part mufflers)

ok these are the little hanger/hooks that the mufflers are held up by. taking off the stock exhaust is a pain in the *** because these little hooks on the car are angled in two ways... 1. they are angled towards eachother, 2 the one on towards the back of the muffler also has a angled hook which angles upwards. (you will need help to get this off, one person to hold the exhuast up while you're unhooking it).... it's easier to take these off if you spray some greese on them, it'll allow them to slide of easier. (keep in mind it's a little hard to get to when the stock exhaust is up there becuase the muffler covers up a lot of it. sorry no pics of this)

ok this is where the piping connects with the catalyctic converter or in other cases a test pipe. it's connected with 3 bolts.... triangular shaped... they are quite easy to take off, but if you're having problems with it just spray some wd-40 on it...

this is a picture of where the catalytic converter connects to the header. these only need to be taken off if you're chaning out the catalyctic converter and putting in a test pipe.

as for the mufflers.... i had two seperate mufflers that i had to install... they are both connected with 2 bolts on each side... easiest way to do this is to hang the muflers on the hangers and then connect them to the piping....

well thats it... it's quite a simple instal.. like i said it took me about 15 minutes. you will want to do this with a friend because the stock exhaust is a 1 piece and is around 50lbs or so.... you'll need someone to hold it up while you're undoing the bolts to take it off...(you dont' want it falling down and hitting you in the head)

ok as for the exhaust itself... i actually love it... i love the sound of it.. it's not to loud but loud enough.... it does however have a drone but not as bad as other exhausts... the drone is mainly concentrated around the 3000 to 3500rpms while crusing. when you're starting up it's really deep and once you hit vtec is openes up and becomes high pitched..... so just stay above 3500rpms or so and it's a nice cruse.... just drop to a lower gear.. hahaha.. and if you're around 4300rpms and you're crusing on the highway, it's pretty much sounds stock...

i added some sound clips of it from inside the cabin.

going though some gears...

and this shows the drone i guess (i'll get a better one of these in the next couple of days....

enjoy guys...

ohhhh and as for power... i don't really feel any difference... i fell a little faster in the midrange area..... but then again.. it might just be an illusion.... louder sound makes you think faster.. oh well..... but i dont' feel any loss of power..... i will be getting a dyno done.. but it might not be untill i get my intake and vafc II installed on the car.. and possibly a test pipe...... but i'll keep it updated....

Looks great, I havent seen any proof of power lose either. In fact a few of the FI guys have dynoed at pretty high numbers with the HKS.

It wont burn unless the tips of the mufflers are to far in. Its the exhaust gases that burn, not the metal.

Now do you see why I dont like mine, think how it is if you have a rear lip.

I absolutely love my HKS exhaust. Find an underpass that goes under about 6 lanes of highway and floor it...it sounds like an indy car. I did it and it scared the crap out of me!

How would removal of the rear resonator affect back pressure?
