Default b16 problem (sputtering on deceleration)

Car sputters on deceleration.

Here's what i've done so far....

I adjusted ignition timing. Idle was at 750 rpm, fan came on twice...
Set timing to the red mark on my ctr crankpulley (16*) with the brn and grn wires jumped. Turned car off. Restarted it five minutes later and it took three tries to start. Once started it died . Exact same thing happened tonight. Drove to get dinner and noticed the sputtering was worse. If the rpm is above 3k i have to put the car in neutral because it will make horrible backfiring sounds. Below 3k it literally sounds like a wrx. Put the timing light on when i got home and it was still at 16* btdc.

Setup- 88 dx hatch, b16a, chipped p28, new gsr dizzy, cap, rotor. Accelerates and idles fine with no codes.

What do you guys think is causing this? TIA

Maybe bad plug wires or plugs. I was gonna say cyl/cyk sensor may be bad but you have a new dizzy. Are all your injectors working? crank the car and wiggle the injector plugs to see if that may be one thing. Its all about trouble shooting. And thats when swaps suck.

Good Luck

Tried an oem dizzy and the car ran better. Also got new plug wires, plugs, cap, rotor. Car still sputters around 3k and is difficult to start. Motor takes 5 sec to reach idle speed when started (800 rpm w/fitv bypassed).

Checked iacv, battery voltage, pcv valve, gas cap, throttle cable, inside of tb.

I thought they were. Fuel pressure gage reads 48 psi (hose off) 40 (hose on). The rail is getting fuel. I thought this was interesting, the gage will read 0 psi about an hour after turning the car off. Injectors need to get removed and tested. How can i test them w/o sending them away?

When checking for spark with the plugs removed what color should I see?

After reading your first post I was gonna say to check to see if your plug wires are in the right order, but I doubt that they are. Fuel pressure seems a bit high, but again, I doubt that would cause it to run that bad. Spark plugs should be clean looking, kinda light brownish in color. If they are black, your running too rich. If they are white, too lean.

Tried new injectors today and car still sputtered. Decided to put the old injectors back in. When removing the vacuum hose on the fpr some fuel came out. WTF? Disassembled the fpr and found the diaphram (sp) improperly installed. Fixed it and car runs great.

hahagasdcrx, menappi, and redline130 thanks for your help
