Stewart Warner Gauges
Anyone use the Stewart Warner boost gauge? Or any of their other gauges?

I have installed a boost and oil pressure on an H22 I did, ironicly it was for a guy from PA too. they look really clean and seem to be high quality. Considering a couple for my civic actually
Theyre somewhat more expensive than Autometer, but the more I research, the more I think Autometer is garbage. Everything else is out of my price range, so Im considering the Stewart Warner's.
its $5 more for a blakc face SW boost gauge rather than an AM sport comp.
Autometer is not junk, you are researching on H-T, that is the problem. Poke you head in a few drag cars some time.

I am running a SW mech boost gauge and elec. oil temp gauge.
What I like about the SW is their back-lit gauge face... At night, they light up just like your dashboard or other high quality gauges 9GReddy, Defi, etc..) instead of Autometer which has this ghey lighted ring on the gauge. The SW also has a larger gauge face with a thinner trim ring and are much easier to read.
They are only about $10 more avg than the Autometers.... I would choose SW over Autometer anyway IMO. At least my boost gauge sits at the 0-mark everytime I turn off my car

While that may very well be the case, I have still read alot of crappy things about them.
On the boost gauge arguement, many have issues with it zeroing, and people say to run a current through it to zero out, but I can't see why a mechanical gauge would need that. And I have also read of many that just stop giving a reading all together.
I hear the EGT gauges are innacurate also.
You always have some intelligent things to say Bailhatch, so I would like to hear your opinion on it.

I have never had any real issues with my autometer gauges, but I am going to up the boost in the next couple of weeks to 35psi or and my autometer stops at 30psi. I am going to order the Stewart Warner boost gauge tomorrow...just want to contact them for a few questions on what each gauge comes with.

You hear crappy things about them becasue everyone has one and people only report bad news for the most part. yes the mechanical gauges are off sometimes when you get them. I have dropped one before and had it go up a couple psi. Im sure they leave the factory zeroed but the way stuff is dropkicked off trucks i can see how they get off. I never use the elec ones so i have no opinion on that.
I have installed tons of the mechanicla ones however and I always take the time to remove the light bulb and tweak the little U shapped piece that connects the needle to the part that moves. Not everything is plug and play i guess. who knew.

i have been using vdo gauges for two years now, as you all probably know vdo is a branch or something of stewart warner. while dynoing, my boost gauge was right on target, and i cant complain about my oil press. and egt gauge also. good stuff for a good price from summitracing.com
Sucks that they don't come with all necessary fittings and hoses.
They charge extra for that ****. But they look freaking nice!
EDIT: Other websites sell it with fittings and hoses.

Tony, does your SW boost gauge have vacuum? There are two types, one with vacuum and one without. It would be sweet if you had the vacuum one and it still sat at 0 psi everytime you off your car.

I have Stewart Warner gauges, until I get Defi's.... They are way better then Autometer. Get this!!! They actually have a line for 0 on a boost gauge!! It is crazy, I was so used to the Autometer zero BOX, it blew my mind!!
The Stewart Warner line is pretty damn good for the money. They have a couple cool features including a raised needle, sealed LED chamber, different LED colors....

the guy i got the Supra from actually is an engineer for SW.
I have boost and EGT in my car now. Im swapping out for Greddy's though that should be here on Fri.
The boost looks exactly like Autometer quality. The EGT looks like a better quality gauge. I have no complaints, but i dont like the looks of the ones I have. But their products are pretty good.

Yup, mine reads both vacuum and boost...sits at 0 everytime
The sweep angle is also wider (more needle travel) and the face of the gauge is also slightly larger. It is very visible and very easy to read even by getting a glimpse of it for a split sec. Very good buy for the price.
