FYI: some info on mugen valve springs
my recent mishap has brought me to replacing some valves,.while the valves were out we decided to check seat pressure of the mugen valve springs....here is what we found...
they are stock..
im sure that they are just checked or go through some sort of quality control just to make sure they are all within specs...
so next time someone asks if they need to use the mugen valve springs with the ecu...i guess the answer would be no...

Ummmmmm.... really, as in they sold you STOCK springs...or the seat pressure is the same as stock. maybe its not the pressure thats different....could it be the tensile strength...or....????
no, i recieved a sealed box from king...i highly doubt they replaced them with stock springs...
they have the same yellow markings as the factory springs..

OK! Well. I guess Ill check those off the list. I know Andrew doesnt use them either, and he has no problems..
EP, how long did you have them in?

since like a week before the expo..
ive switched to a port flow inner spring that raised installed hieght pressure up to 65..
and they only cost about 40 dollars if i remember correctly

I've got a sneaking suspicion that the Mugen springs are really only useful for other integras... not the ITR.
ITR stock springs are probably manufactured just the same.

Very, very interesting....you would think there is something different about them though. For instance, the Mugen oil pan is the stock Honda oil pan, but modified with the baffles. So maybe these springs are the stock Honda springs, modified in some way...treated/coated with something...I don't know, I'm just guessing. Seems like this would have come out a long time ago if all they do is re-package the stock Honda springs...

Mugen says that ITR and CTR do not need their springs.
Only NON-R needs them.

Wow, this is truly odd....and KMS constantly reminds the buyers in the pricing guide that the Mugen valve springs are essential for the added RPMs due to the Mugen N1 ECU! I don't remember them saying anything about non-ITR's though!

Yeah, it's funny because it says:
Intake valve spring and exhaust valve spring set to cope with increased engine speed following ECU changes. Recommended for any use over 8,000 rpm.
[97-2001 Type R / 94-2001 GSR] 14760-XJ1-S0N0 $460.00

Stock springs and cams will go to 9300 no problems.
Add Ti retainers and they'll go to 9500.

I only run 9100 on stock valve R springs but it IS perfectly safe as Stephen mentioned. No idea why anyone would buy Mugen valve springs really. What's the point?
live and learn...no matter how hard you tried...you wouldnt of been able to talk me out of buying them..i needed to see with my own eyes...

Hm. And the Mugen ECU sets rev limiter to 9100rpm, which is perfectly safe for stock springs.
This really has been a great learning experience!
Sorry it co$t you, ep.

If I remember correctly the "Mugen" Springs are the JDM 98 Spec Springs which are a bit stiffer than the 96 spec.
97-99 US/Can ITR's use the 96 Spec spring but 00-01 US/Can ITR's use the 98 Spec Spring.
What I remember is that they Originally suggested it to people with the 96 Spec Springs (97-99 ITR's), Maybe King had it up back in 97 and never changed it.
