Inside splines on my action 2md stripped! How does this happen?
I was driving on the highway the other day and all of a sudden my car popped out of gear and would make noise if I tried to push in the clutch. I towed it home and took the tranny off yesturday and the inside splines on my clutch disk are stripped. I haven't even taken the car to the track with this clutch, I must have only launched it a couple times. The rest has just been daily driving. Has anyone had this happen to them? I hope the mainshaft is ok...its worn down ever so slightly from spinning inside the clutch. I was dissapointed in action but the clutch was great while it lasted. I have a new 2ms on the way, hopefully it lasts a little longer.
check the mainshaft as well... iv seen them worn down just a tiny bit and they would go through discs like nothing
almost 30k on the clutch not too much life left but still it shouldn't have happened. The mainshaft was 100% ok before this clutch. I put the clutch on just before the turbo and the tranny only had 30k original miles. Here's some pics of the mainshaft now...looks okay to me

looks to me like the disk was for a cable clutch. I know a cable clutch will fit on a hydro trans but after awhile will do that....... someone may have sent you the wrong disk and no one ever relized it.
most clutch manufacturers make the materiel (where your disc stripped) a little bit softer than the splines on the transmission... so that the transmission wont get damaged if something like this happens.
Did you make sure your dowel pins were in?

ive never herd of this happening before . thats insane!!!!
are the splines different on a cable vs hydro b16?
im worried about my action 2md now.

yes, everything was in/lined up fine. Anyone have more info on the cable thing? I ordered this from wiredspeedlab probably a year and a half ago at least.

me either
me either
BTW: I'm not making this thread to bash action, just wanted to see if anyone had this happen. I loved this clutch while I had it and I just ordered another 2ms to put in.
i agree , the only explanation would be if there was too much play between the shaft spline and the slpine on the clutch.
wow!
I'm sure (or hoping) whom ever you got it from will offer you something for your troubles.
My old action 2MD and my current 2MS are great tho

Yes the splines are different on the cable and hydro..... on has a dome shape and the other has more of a pointy shape to it.... you can tell the difference when the two are side by side

The clutch disc for a 90-91 B series cable tranny will not physically fit onto the mainshaft of a tranny for 92-93 cable or 94-up Hydro. You would have had to bash the thing on with a 5lb sledge.
That input shaft looks to be quite worn closer in towards the tranny case where the clutch disc sits when the clutch pedal is released. I would change it, based on what I can see from the photo.

the torque specs dont have anything to do with what happiend in this guys case... I mean it does need to be torqued down to the proper spec's but I am almost positive that he had a disk for a cable trans instead of the hydro, to someone who doesnt pay attention to it 100% when they put it on are goign to just think since they ordered something they assume it is the correct part and not double check. When I install anything I always double check the part number and how it fits.... but thats just me

Everything was torqued to spec as per the helms. So does the cable disk fit on the hydro shaft? I didn't force it on at all.

I think its just the pic...if anything is a little worn its the outer part. I stuck my stock disk on there and it fits nice and snug.
