Default del Sol roll bar?

With Mid America Motorplex opening this spring, I will be spending more time on a road course next year. HPCCC's and lap events only.

The rollbar/rollcage thread has me thinking more about the safety issue.
This is my daily driver and for now I can't afford a track only car.

Any options other than a custom cage?

Does AutoPower not make a del Sol bar? A custom weld in bar won't cost you too much and you can always add on the full cage later. Ask your local IT, PCA, etc racers to recommend a good local cage builder.

The DelSol club had a guy who was going to build a nice custome Bolt in rollbar, we had about 10 orders already but the guy who was going to fabricate it backed out. It was a nice design it would still give you access to the storage pockets in the back, it also had a bold in 5th point that would bolt from the middle of the bar to the lower passenger floorboard. It was ancored in by welding a peice to the body above the speakers and cutting a 1inch hole in the interior panel there by the speaker. It would have been nice...

I e-mailed Autopower and they don't make one for the delSol. They also couldn't recommend anyone who does.

Don't want a full cage, at least for now. If their was one like the Autopower that would be perfect.

The only prefabbed cages or bars I know of are the Cusco and Safety21 from Japan. I am waiting for my 6pt to come in and see how it stiffens up the body. Should have it in the next month or so.

Safety21 is also made by Cusco, but are made of mild steel tubing instead of CM. Exact same designs. I just could not justify the extra 150 or so dollars to save 15 pounds. My car is daily driven and turbo, so I can just up the boost a few pounds to make up for the weight.

Just a thought for the Del Sol crowd-try KIRK Racing. They have the ability to do most any car. They use DOM tubing and have both weld-in and bolt-in products.

If you guys are interested I can fab some bolt in or weld together kits for the Sol. I have a delsol Chasis to use as a template, and all the pipebender/tube notching/welding equipment.

If Anyone has an sketches, or any requirements of what they'd like (i heard access to the storage bins) - let me know and i'll come up with a prototype cage in the next couple of weeks if there's interest. Eitehr post here, or email me: scott@top-speed.ca if you're interested.

i might be interested depending on the price, i threw away my storage bins so that might make things easier.....

specs are what....

one main hoop solid no cuts, no more than 4 bends to equal 180 degrees. two rear supports at least 30 degrees. a diagonal bar from driver side top to passenger bottom. i will have to check what pipes would need to be used and the gauge.

or you can do something like hoop, bar in center and a v from top corners to center of bar.

blah i will check on what the guidlines are

I have some Pics I will forward to people who are intersted in one cage that was built For Slater's Del Sol.

It had four attachement points and an optional fifth that was a removable petty bar. You could still access the storage bins also, and the other to points were attached aboved where the speakers are and were attached by welding an attachement point to the frame then bolting the cage to that attachment point, it was quite cool. This way the back window worked also.

Yes the bar that attached to the frame by the speakers is a perfect place to mount harness's.

Sol2nr - I'm located in Toronto, Canada.

I'll try to fab up a design next week with 1.75" rollcage tube (0.095" thickness) - and get a rough idea of how much material we'll need to give a cost estimate. I know exactly what Solracer is talking about attaching it to the rear speaker area.

Are you guys primairly interested in Bolt-in, or weld-in bar/cage?

Great! I am still looking for pics but I would be interested in a bold in Bar that does not intrude through the rear windows. The desing I had pictures in had the Petty bar bolt near the front door sill and you could remove it so people could ride with yah . I look for the pics I had again.
