Hey guys? I'm new to this forum, and i'll bet this Q. has come up so many times so i'm sorry if this annoys you. What i wanna know is how complicated is it for an integra GSR engine to be swaped into a 92-95 civic? Do you guys know how much it would cost me roughly as well? After i do this swap, will i succeed in passing a smog check as well with the smog referee? I just wanna be safe as well. Well hope all you experts can help me out, and if there is a better swap better than this, please don't hesitate to mention. THANX

 

the B18C GSR motor will fit your car perfectly. it's a direct bolt-in swap.
you will fail the visual smog check (but there are ways around that )
the swap will cost you $3500 - $4300 installed depending on where you have it done.
other good swaps would be: B16A2, B18C5, B18B, H22A

 

That H22 will raise your install price a bit, as well as many other complications/issues. Stick with a B series IMO.

 

I disagree. You should pass visual if the engine is the same year or newer and all smog equipment is hooked up.

no. the guy at the smog station is going to open this big book. in there he will fond that the code on your engine doesn't match the engine code that sould be in your civic. he doesn't give a rats *** if the engine is newer or older. therefore he will fail you on the spot.
now, in order to pass smog legaly you have to go to DMV before you get the swap done and get a certificate (only if your engine is same year or newer than the car, both are from the same manufacturer, don't require cusomizing motor mounts, and you can't downgrade your engine: go from fuel injection to carburator).
with that certificate you will be able to pass visual.

 

easy swap and fun! if you have a "complete" swap engine package, install is pretty straight forward. expect $3500 +/- for the swap but you gotta have some extra cash coz you'll never know whats gonna come up (ex. bad clutch, belts and seals). better swap is the b18c5 engine but a lot more $$ than the gsr. b19a2/b16a3 will do as well.

I was assuming that he knew about getting it certified. You do not go to the DMV...you go to the state referee...where they will actually smog ur car...and do a visual. Those rules that I told him were those to follow when he goes to the ref.

I don't really get why'd you go to the DMV before you'd get the swap done?? How do you get a certificate?

You guys ahve it BAD in Cali. Move out! Then you don't have to deal with all of that crap! Here is Georgia they don't even care about the motor. No visual checks. As long as it passes the emmisions, you are cool. If you fail, you just go to one of the local places that is "friendly". The place I went to charged me $40 for a "test & tune session". Basically he sat and played until eveything work out. hehehe. I love Georgia. LOL

i put a 96 d16 dxmotor in my 92 cx b/c i hae no mone ad had a blown motor and im havingtrouble with the wiresonthe intke manifold sombod sid i mgh be ablyto take a minifold from a 92-95 si or dx ad put it on the 96 motor ifthis will work or if you have anther ideafor me please let me know or a site where i might b able to find out

Hey y'all! Thanx 4 all the info you guys have given. It's really helpfull. But i'm still concered about the smog referee. Does it cost alot more money to modify the car to make it smog legal. There are ways right? But is it complicating? I live in WA state so i'm really not sure wassup. Well thanx again guys

thats for the engine alone. there are cheaper deals but you just gotta look around.
labor on installation is $500-$1000. it all depends on the mechanic/shop. do not pay more than $1000 for install.

and you can always pass smog illegaly
