Default Big rock - 1, Integra - 0

so pissed, have to rant....

when I was leaving work this morning at a little after 5am, I got about 1/2 mile and saw something strange. I noticed a jeep up off the road and in front of me was a white plastic bag. I hate those things so I positioned the car to go right over it because I'd hate to have it get up in the wheels/suspension. however, when it became too late to do anything about it [and there were cars next to me so I couldn't swerve] I noticed that the plastic bag was in fact a rather large rock. pray that you never have to hear that kind of sound coming from your car.

well, I saw someone had pulled over and figured I should stop and see what all got smashed. good thing, because there was white smoke following me. I helped out the old couple ahead of me by changing their tire [wheel was done for], but I wasn't so lucky. the support under my radiator was hit as well as the forward mounting point of the strut rod on the driver's side. coolant was everywhere and the bottom corner of the radiator is bent out. the AC condensor looks a little bent, but I couldn't tell if it is leaking and I don't even have the AC belt on so I could care less.

and this radiator is less than a year old!! good thing I got an inexpensive replacement instead of a $300 aluminum piece that would be worth $0 after today. I am so pissed, but that's life for ya. and the tow truck driver had to make a stop because someone else blew their tire on one of the rocks. apparently the jeep went into the concrete divider and turned it into big chunks. but I got that rock back. I walked back down the road and smashed it to hell. stupid rock!

I will take some pics when I wake up later and see if some of you can give me some tips about what all to check and what maybe can't be fixed. I hope all I need to do is replace the radiator and beat that support back into shape [if I can]. probably need an alignment, too. ok, goodnight/morning/whatever.

PICS!!!!

sorry to hear man, I've hit my fair share of random oddities and the like on the DC Beltway...check your oil pan/oil pan gasket area for leaks.

thanks everyone, and yeah, I kept telling myself it could have been worse. with my little car, who knows, I could have hit it with the wheels and flipped over!

and to top it off....it rained. so I will be working on the car on the wet ground. not a huge hindrance, but it just makes it less fun.

I think you got lucky man. If that was me I would of had a bent rim, a flat, a blown strut and a **** up radiator. That's my luck. Did the elderly give you a tip?? Good job helping them out though.

or P.A.R.T.S. = People Against Rocks That Suck.

update: got a ride from a buddy to get some lunch and a radiator from Autozone. $175. I know everyone yaps about radiatorbarn and it's only be $108 shipped [I checked] but I have read too many negative comments and this one is here today. pay for quality and pay for speed, those are the compromises we make.

another "lighter note" comment: at least I don't have to drain the radiator! probably just a little left in the hoses if anything... although I have been thinking seriously lately about a new car, which would probably be a 04 or 05 Si...about the nicest car for the money but I'd be scared it would get stolen. but it would be nice to have a car that starts life in my hands for once. ugh, I just want to get baked and pass out and not think about it...maybe it'll just go away.......

I would really like some input from anyone with structural knowledge...am I really screwed as far as the brace across the strut rods? if the structural integrity is compromised, then I don't want to waste all the time/money to fix it up completely, maybe just enough to make it driveable again so I can search for something else....

help....me.......*collapses*

oh, and no the couple did not tip me. I don't really care but one thing I wish I'd said to them was to "pass it on". so I'll tell you guys ... if ever you find someone who needs help and you are in a position to help them, do so. it didn't cost me anything but time to change that tire and it wasn't like I was going anywhere in a hurry. as a bonus, it helped take my mind off of my situation for a short time.

Same **** happened to me like 2 weeks ago. I was going to work and the street that i take to work is a little dark but cars always drive through there, anyways i was going like 60mph cause it's a good stretch of road and when i was like 20yrds away i noticed something in the road. Well i hit the brakes once before i realized i was going to hit it, that **** was so loud and to my dissatisfaction it was a fu*king rock in the street. I looked it the rear view mirror to see the rock get shot out from under my car, that **** was jumping like 3-4 feet in the air. Any ways sorry for the long post, the damage to my car was a broken lip, cracked bumper, dented to hell oil pan, and deep scratches under my car. I know some kids placed it there because there is no rocks anywhere close to the road...lil bastards got me. Rocks

Shouldn't the old couple's insurance pay for your damage, since the debris was a result of their accident?

If they ripped part of their Jeep off and you hit that, they would be liable, what's the difference if it was a chunk of the divider, it was a result of their accident.

They're gonna be paying out for their own insurance, so it won't hurt them anyway.

thanks, man.

I am going to call the police dept for the city it happened in and see if I can get the info of the jeep that crashed and find out if that block of cement was caused by their accident. if so, perhaps their insurance will foot the bill.....and it wasn't the old people, they just hit the block before I did.
