How much longer with the EG be popular?
I'm a rather senior member of HT having been here since '00. I've owned a '00 ITR, '02 S2000, and 2 '92 EGs. I like to tinker with cars and Hondas have been my platform of choice for years. While I'm not into the "import scene" at the age of 31, I do attend the track (road course) for HPDEs when time and finances allow.
With that said, I recently sold my WRX to buy another hatchback. The debate has been between a newer EK platform or the tried-n-true EG. Please remember I want a nice, reliable, daily driver first and foremost, not some gutted JDM-bling mobile. Currently I have two vehicles in my sights;1) '00 EK DX 99k stock, single owner, female, or 2) '92 VX 145k chassis (mint), '00 USDM ITR 37k. The end result is the car payments are practically the same with only a $10 monthly difference WITH insurance. This leads me to the question of how long the EG chassis popularity will be around?
Obviously from my choices, the '00 DX is a no brainer as I am getting for NADA average retail out the door with tax/tags/title. Resale will never be an issue as it is still a rather new chassis. I will be tempted to mod it with an engine swap, brakes, and suspension, but I will probably limit myself to a nicely built D-platform. Drawbacks are OBD2 and about 200 lbs over the EG.
The EG is as clean as they come without being a show car. Close friend owns it and treats it as a child, bordering on obsession with it. He bought the engine with 4800 mi on it from IAS and had it installed by someone I know/trust. The motor currently has 37k on it and has never been opened. The drawback is the car does not have real suspension, a brake upgrade, or AC (living in the South sucks without it). The upside to this is I have brand Omnipower coilovers and a full '98 GSR brake swap in storage, just have to source AC (engine bay parts only). What scares me is financing a car for more than its "book value". If I decided to sell it a few years down the road, will demand still be there?
Give me your predictions on the demand for EGs 3-4 yrs down the road. Thanks!

man thats a very hard choice id go with the one you think looks better.
they are both great cars.
both have the same mods out.
only diff is a little weight but dont let that make the choice for you.

I would go with the ek. Also since you said that you want a reliable not gutted jdm bling car then the 200lb difference should not be an issue. Also The vx has 145,xxx miles on it, i mean a honda is a honda but with that many miles on then there will be alot of wear and tear on it already. The type r would be fun to have But if you want to Tinker with it the i think you will have more fun with the Ek. Just my .02
EK: 3
EG: 0
Keep the responses coming
Other notes:
EK - Silver. Couple of minor dings (5 total). Nothing Dent Wizard can't fix for $100. Few minor scraps. Interior clean. Usual wear on driver seat lower bolster and staining on carpet.
EG - White. Interior swapped to black except blue dash. Del Sol seats. No backseat, just carpet covering that area. HX wheels. Kenji ECU, VAFC (tuned), Tanabe catback, AEM CAI, Honda N1 pulley. All OE parts included.

I've owned 3 EG's total (bought red '93 CX new, white '92 VX used, white '92 CX used) so I know what I'm getting into.
Another thought is 2-4 yrs down the road I could pull the ITR swap and sell the chassis separate.
Another is I hate the car payment, sell the swap, pay off the hatch and put a D-series swap in anyway.
EG = $10 less a month

go with the eg. it should be around for a long time, i think they are a good platform. and the 92-95 hatch and coupe have the best front end look hands down.
Go with the EG. It's a classic already. Everyday a honda guy kicks himself for not getting one.
I have a 92 dx hatchback and I just pulled out all of my a/c two days ago. You want it, pay shipping and you can have it all. If you want to swap heater controls for the a/c button, I don't even care. I still have the refill hose hooked up to a half a can of A/c juice too. Just put it all to good use.

Jesus guys - drive what makes you happy! Who cares if EGs will be popular (although yes, I'm biased) - Whatever you think will be the best platform and looks the best to you is what you should go with -
With that said, EG gets my vote.

Just go with what you want, i mean ppl say 145k, oh its beatin a lil, well ride in it and see, if you know the person selling it and the person who put in the swap and u trust they did a good job there is no reason why you should fear that factor(that woulda been the only thing i would worry about). I dont know how long the eg platform will have as much popularity and support, but who cares? what really matters is which platform you personally would enjoy driving every day. my vote goes w/ the eg.

just as much or more than right now, if you keep it clean and tastefully mod it you wont have a problem selling it.

People will still want the Eg 3-4 years from now...... people will also want an EK 3-4 years from now BUT a clean chassi EG will be alot harder to come by... so with all that said EG
