Fuel gauge sending unit replacement.....
Ok I did a search and came up with nothing to help me. My fuel gauge on my 94 ex is stuck at half tank. I changed the cluster and got the same exact results. This weekend I dusted off the old handy dandy manual and looked up the fuel gauge sending unit. I did not find any instructions on replacing or repairing it, but I did find the location of the connector. I took out my rear seats and removed the access panel. there was the fuel pump and fuel gauge sending unit connector there. I then decided to test the unit by unplugging it and seeing what the fuel gauge did. It went to empty. So I know my gauge works. I attempted to clean off the connector pins but came up with same results of half tank reading. My questions are:
Will I have to drop the gas tank to replace the FGSU?
How much will it cost for the FGSU?
Will this take a mechanic to do this? or how complex is this repair gonna be?

you do not need to drop the tank to do this. you pull the rear seat (as you did already) and remove the sending unit there. * before you unbolt everything, clean around the spot where you will remove it. usually they are all crusty, and you don;t want rust/diirt/crap falling in the tank when you remove the sender. good luck. pm me if you need any other help.

last i spoke with him he had the sender ready to drop in and i was elling him how to remove the press fit ring. most likely he got it in, as i have not heard anything since
What about in the case where the gauge doesn't indicate higher than 3/4 full after a fill up? That's my problem and I am trying to figure out if it's the sending unit or the fuel gage itself that's messed up...
Some Honda parts specialist told me it's the fuel gauge and other say fuel sending unit...

sorry been so busy with 12 hour 7 day a week work weeks. gonna do a small test tonight. I am gonna unhook the sending unit cable and hook up the new one and manually move the float to see if my guage responds. Not sure but I may have to attach a ground wire or just touch it to the chassis. The sending unit is probably cheaper design then that of a toilet bowl float, lol. well let you know by tomorrow for sure. If I get out early enough tomorrow I will actually replace it - given my test works. I will post pics and a write up.
Thanks to a rodney I can know before I run out of gas

I used whatever tools I could muster up. I used:
Ratchet
10mm socket
Screwdriver standard & phillips
hammer
pliers (didn't really need these)
old toothbrush
sponge
windex

$54 w/ tax for new fuel meter

First fold down your backseat (can use key to unlock from inside or pull on release from inside trunk) and remove the 4 10mm bolts holding the seat in and remove it.

Then the bottom only has one 10mm bolt. Remove the bolt and lift it up or take out. I just left it in there folded up.

With phillips screwdriver remove the 4 screws to the acces panel and open it (careful not to damage any of the wires) and disconnect old fuel meter connector.

with sponge, windex, and toothbrush clean as much dirt from around the connector and locking ring. You will need to use standard tip screwdriver with hammer to tap on the locking ring to get it to spin counter clockwise till it pops out.
***CAUTION*** Do not hit too hard to cause sparks. Do not damage locking ring. Do not smoke. Open Gas Cap to releave any pressure. Open both doors & trunk to vent harmful fumes.

Take it out, pop in the new one and just install in reverse steps. Now go fill up and watch your fuel gauge work

my son has a 95 Civic EX and his speedometer wasn't working when we bought the car so we went to a salvage yard and got another cluster we put that in but the fuel gauge is stuck on full we took our original fuel gauge out of our good cluster and put that in the Salvage cluster but it's slowly starts at E and goes all the way to full what could it be? Kinda sounds like what ur talking about?
