Default 96-98 4DR Taillight to 99-00 4DR Taillight?

I currently own a 96 Civic Sedan. I really don't like those taillight that comes with it. Is it possible to do a conversion to 99-00 taillight?

It looks like the trunk lid is shaped differently where the lights are attached, I don't think it will work

What if I swap the trunklid? Would that work?

i have done this. you need the following things.

99-00 trunk lid
99-00 tail lights, outer and inner
the wiring for the 99-00 trunk lid
the plugs for the 99-00 outer tail lights
wire strippers and a couple sockets

you can use your trunk lock, just switch it into the 99-00 trunk lid.
also use your existing trunk lid release cable.

1. take your trunk lid off.
2. put your trunk lock in the 99-00 lid.
3. bolt the 99-00 lid on.
4. change the outer tail lights.
5. put your trunk release cable on.
6. wire up the tail light plugs and trunk lid into your wiring.
7. stand back and look at how cool it looks.

I've never heard or seen a 96-98 to 99-00 Rear conversion before.

do you not like them because they are orange??

if so just take the outer parts out, mask off the orange and spray them with the red tailight translucent paint. Quick, light coats with time to at least get tacky in between. If you take your time and do it right, it will look like its supposed to be all red, and will save you time, money, and having to repaint the trunk lid..

peace

Use the OUTER tails from the 1.6EL on the civic. forget the trunk swap, just the outer tails looks good!

I'll grab pics tomorrow of my 4dr with EL outer tails!

**** the IS300.

And YES. LOOK at the lights. you can tell there different shapes by looking at them. also, my helms book says so. we have to much verification of WRONG answers here.

Yes, with the trunk lid it can be done, the 96 lights do NOT just bolt on.

Any my opinion. Get the tails that are white/red wit no orange. the 99-00 tails are totally gay. there too round, too girly, and too, um, classy?? whats the word im lookin for. i know a guy who converted BACK to 96 tails cause he hated the 99 ones so bad.
