Well, I made the changeover from NA to boost this weekend. My motor is a poor man's type-R. Originally it made 200hp and 137 torque NA with 12.0:1 CR. I decided I was done with it so I changed over. I added a Cometic .074" head gasket to drop the compression to about 10.5:1 CR and threw in a set of GSR cams instead of the Skunk Stage 1's I had. Unfortunately I left the dyno sheet at home, I will post it tonight. Here is the setup now:

B18C1 block, JE pistons, GSR rods w/ ARP rod bolts
B16A head, ported/polished, GSR cams
Cometic .074" head gasket, total compression ~10.5:1
Garrett T3/T04e 50 trim, .63 A/R turbo
Tial 38mm wastegate
Revhard manifold and 2.5" downpipe
Kteller 2.5" catback (2.5" magnaflow muffler and resonator)
Spoolin Performance I/C piping
6" JohnnyRacecar intercooler
Greddy TypeS BOV
TurboXS MBC
Lucas 440cc injectors
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
AEM FPR
Hondata s200b

On 7psi I ended up putting down 261hp and 191 torque on 91 octane on full exhaust. I will get the graph up later. Injectors are maxxed out (90-93%) I need to get at least 550's or higher. Fuel pressure is up there too ~60psi A/F was tuned to a conservative 11.5:1 due to the high compression. Timing was about 22-23 degrees. I am going to go with bigger injectors and up the boost later. Do these numbers sound about right?

Edit: Here is the graph compared to my all motor numbers. There is a slight dip in the 6500-7000 area for some reason. A/F looked good there and so did timing. Kinda weird.



Put some RC750's in and bumped the boost up to 10psi. Pulled 301hp and 230 torque.

not to bad on the low boost, turn it up a lil more and you should be over 300 easy.

compression makes a world of a difference

With the I/C in, you can't tell. The only thing that gives it away is the I/C piping because I had to cut the bumper some for the piping to clear.

im running RC440's on a stock ITR turbo with a headgasket at 9.1:1 and on 7psi i put down 307 to the wheels...


you say your 440's are maxed? imagine how mine feel....

My duty cycle was close to 100% at one point when my car was still in the high 10's in A/F. I also tuned to 11.4-11.5:1 CR to be safe. I'm sure there is more HP just from going a bit leaner, but I don't want to push it yet.

 

Do you like the way the car drives with boost? Sure it has more power, but what about lag? Could you do a little NA to Boost review?

Turbo lag is way overblown, sure you have to wait a second for the power, but when it comes in nothing compares to it

Definately different type of power. NA, the car was super responsive and very linear. With this setup, there isn't a whole lot of lag, the reason I got a 50 trim instead of a 57 or 60. Basically, if I stomp it from a very slow roll, the turbo will start spooling around 2800, 5psi by 3200rpms, 6psi by 3500, 7psi by 4000. The car just rips the tires in 1st and 2nd. The car pulls hard in 3rd, actually haven't gotten into 4th yet. Overall a
