Default Golden eagle sleeves or Darton

from what i hear is that the golden eagle sleeves were made of a grey iron and that allowed the sleeves to warp and turn oval. im not sure if they had fixed that problem. but has anyone had any problems using GE sleeves or should i just got with the darton sleeves

Darton Sleeves are made with the Pro-Racer in mind.
They dont provide a huge amount of cooling at the top of the cylinder.

The Golden Eagle on the Other hand, provides tons of Cooling at the Top of the CYlinder. It depends on your application, but the Golden Eagle are sleeved using CNC and are dead on to like .0001".

Depends what you need. That's why Darton offers both a sleeve kit with matching block guard (sportsman) , and the "Pro-kit" which is what is pictured above.

Either Eagle or Darton is tolerance ... you choose the finished bore size w/ darton.

well i heard the rumors earlier when they first came out with there sleeves. i just heard they werent using ductile iron and they were using grey iron. and from what i heard the sleeves would warp and turn oval before the motor was broken in due to the heat. but i guess they fixed that problem.

SETH.....NIce pics....Is that my block with the GE sleeves. I thought that picture looked familiar.

Also, they might want to consider the cost.

Haha, yea the GE pic is yours. The Darton pic is of my friends b18c from his GSR. It's the Pro Kit.

I think I'm going with GE mainly because of cost. The dartons above cost my friend about $1600-$1700 with the O-ringing whereas the GE are more like $750 with O-ringing.

I too considered both. Heres my pros and cons on each.

GE
Pro's - fast fast fast turn around, great pricing, no slip design, should stay cool. Claims to never have broken a sleeve. Speaking with Vince.
Con's - open deck could cause problems in all out race setups. Speaking with Ted.

Darton -
Pro's - unmatched strength, completely proffesional company. Offers sleeves seperately.
Con's - cost is nearly double that of GE's when installed. Closed deck could cause cooling problems. Long turn around quoted.

My decision was to have my GSR block resleeved to 84.5mm by Golden Eagle. It took longer than quoted, so they included my return shipping. I got it back, and they forgot to cut and install the O rings, so, at their cost, I sent it back and they did it, and shipped it back. Then, they forgot to install the O rings, so I requested they send them to me. I have not recieved them yet, but I have not really actively persued them either. In their defense, I did not include a sheet of paper indicating exactly what was to be done, so things could easily be noted. I dealt with Vince twice, and Ted twice. Vince is a great guy, and is definately pro customer. Ted is not pro customer. Vince is the owner, seems a hair understaffed for fielding tech questions and stuff, but I'm used to having to chase the best work. Way better work than Benson's

So, how much boost (if tuned right) can the Golden Eagle sleeves take? No one has asked that. . . . I'm thinking about getting them also. . . .

I've never heard of a split aftermarket sleeve. And I've been in this game long enough where I've heard everything. Slipping sleeves is another story....hmm, nobody talks about Benson's anymore, wonder why?

When I sleeve my next block, I'll probably go with GE just because they are cheaper and they sponsor my idol(BERGENHOLTZ)... !

I think this subject is just like the ESP vs. CROWER debate...They're both good rods, I would go for the cheaper one. They've(ESP) been proven well enough to my knowledge
