USDM vs JDM Mugen catback exhaust
anyone know if there are any differences?
Also wanted to know if there is really that much of a performance difference between the Mugen twin loop and Apexi N1. I am planning on purchasing the Apex but ran into a decent deal on a Mugen.

from what ive heard the jdm one has a different tip...but mine says jasma on the underside of the muffler, just like it would say on their jdm header...i know i love my twin loop..the apex should outflow the mugen in my opinion. get what you like...
there is no difference. I ordered one and asked King if there was any differnece and they said no only the way it bolts up to the cat and header (Size)..
mugen is powerful and quiet I was also thinking of getting the Apexi N1 but it is Fing loud and it attracts to much attention in my opinion stealth is the way i go and mugen achieves it with no sacrifice in backpressure..... there is a long story behind the way a exhaust works that I am not going to get into but MUGEN is well engineered and well worth the price.

There is no USDM or JDM Mugen exhaust, it is the same piece either way, 2 3/8 o.d. piping. I curently have the Mugen exhaust and owned the APex n-1. The Apex- N-1 is obnoxious, but it makes good horsepower. I went with the Mugen because it also makes good power but is much more low-key. It depends what you want, I didn't want to drive around in something that sounded like it was farting as it accelerated.

Definately don't wanna attract to much attention. The cops out here fug with me enough as it is. Mugen it is then!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually there is a difference in the diameter of the piping as well as in the length of the b-pipe. The b-pipe on the JDM is longer to compensate for their shorter cat that isn't a cat at all. And the diameter is either 61 or 63mm.
So I have in front of me a Mugen USDM TypeR B-pipe and I notice that the piping between the cat and the resonator is 50mm (WTF!
) The rest of the piping is 60mm as expected. Besides the restrictive 50mm section there is a small taper were the B-pipe joins the cat loosing another 5mm.
If my memory serves me correctly, even the stock system is wider then 50mm. (Can anyone confirm the stock size?) Has anyone modified this piece to eliminate this problem? I was thinking of having this pipe cut off at the resonator and having something custom made. Has this been done before?
Can anyone confirm that the JDM B-pipe does NOT have this 50mm section incorporated in the design?
I am in no rush to install this so I have some time to tinker if it comes down to that.
Thanks,

i gotta stick up for my overpriced header...it is designed for a higher compression jdm spec motor in conjuction with the use of the headgasket....
the apexn1 will also out perform the twinloop, but you also got to live with it being that loud..
with all the parts offered for the itr and jdm spec motor..200whp is the average gain..much more can be realized with some mild tuning and a free flowing exhaust..

All good points! The Mugen twin loop may not be the biggest baddest exhaust out there but there is something to be said for build quality and style. Mugen has both in spades! Mugen haters simply don't see that, and I'm ok with that.
Have you done anything to address the issues that I brought up?

Yes, when my JDM Mugen catback arrived I measured the b-pipe...60.5mm. The difference between the JDM and USDM b-pipes is the section of pipe from the cat to the b-pipe resonator... The USDM is nearly the same size as stock (read: small) in order to bolt up to the stock cat. The JDM is larger as it is made to bolt up to a JDM header/cat combo.
Anyone know of a good welding shop in the Toronto area? I mean GOOD not good!

just plain awesome..i could not have said it better...
ep-who is very far from being a mugen hater
All JDM exhausts will require a custom cat. This is because the header lengths are different and the b pipes on the JDM ITRs are a different length than their USDM counterparts.
Babynsx,
So how do you know so much about the Mugen Twin Loop??
