Lowering 1995 Prelude
I'm a British Luder wanting to lower my ride, nothing extreme though, say 30-35mm. Thing is that half the time I don't have a clue what anyones talking about here as I don't know all the technical gabble and stuff. So in simple beginner terms can someone please tell me the basics such as, can I just replace the springs or must I buy other stuff like shocks or whatever. And how hard is it to do, because if it's not too hard I will get a mate (experienced mechanic) to do it rather than fork out at a garage. One last thing, don't wanna have to spend an arm and a leg either!!
Cheers!

basically to lower a car, you need to get new springs and new shocks. for a 30mm drop, look for a aftermarket spring that advertises a 1.25-1.5" drop. they should cost approx $200US. for shocks, you're looking at another $400 or so (KYB AGX is the brand and model. solid shock for every day driving). there are numerous variations on this theme, and explaining it would involve some technobabble so i'll leave it out.
in my head, there's another alternative for a mild drop. Koni Yellow shocks have a ht. adjustment setting that allows you to lower your car by an inch using your stock springs. koni yellows cost ~$500. and they're absolutely marvelous shocks. imo the best shocks you can buy off the shelf. if you were to go this route, you'd just need to get the shocks and install them using the lowest perch setting. it will be a very mild drop, maybe too little for your tastes, but it'd probably be the most comfy route to take.
the install is easy enough, though it requires some special tools, and a little bit of knowhow, it's not impossibly difficult. you'll need a jack, 4 jackstands, handtools, and a spring compressor. if your friend has all of that, and isn't daunted by pulling apart a double wishbone suspension, it should take a few hours to do.
