Default Review: jdmshit front lip fitment *pics*

As some of you know, I purchased a Mugen replica front lip from jdmshit. I installed it today and the pics are below. A few pointers:

*Overall quality on the lip itself is good

* The lip is about 2 fingers too short on either end. I had to stretch it like a bitch to mount it on. The plastic started to spiderweb a tad on both ends because of the stretch. Double sided tape is not necessary, the fit was that tight.

EDIT: I was under the impression that the lip will come with some type of mounting hardware. However, this lip did not.

My intention was to pre-install this lip to check fitment and to drill the necessary holes before paint, utilizing stock mounting points. However, since it basically fit like ****, I'm leaving it black. I will probably get geniune Mugen or another lip in the future, and will paint that lip instead. I thought about getting rid of this right away, but I'm just gonna rock this for a while I guess, since I had to work so hard to put it on because of the poor fitment. Have to admire my own work

Pics:

Overall, the lip itself is
But once I tried to put it on

I guess it depends on which batch the lips come from. Mine prolly came from a bad batch. I've heard both positive and negative on jdmshit lips. Any of you guys have fitment issues with these lips?

late.

never been a fan of that lip just because it looks a little bulky, but it looks pretty good.

Bummer about the fitment issues. Sadly, you're not the first and definitely won't be the last with fitment issues with that style lip.

I haven't heard of many people having fitment issues with their CTR replicas, though. Anyone want to chime in?

It might be easier to take the bumper off the car and not try to fight with gravity when trying to install it.

You'll probably get it to fit better too.

I agree. There is something very wrong with that lip. A tip for you though. If you are having problems putting on a lip a good way to hold it tightly around the corner of the front bumper is to use a soft ended clamp. You know the ones with the yellow or red urathane ends on them. Just clamp that in place and tighted it. Then you have both hands free to screw it in with and the urathane on the end of the clamp wont do any damage to your paint or lip.

you will need two people to properly mount that lip, its currently on my car and I have no real complaints. I am told the real mugen lip is a lot shorter though and doesnt sit as low. As soon as I can find a stop lip to replace it with im going to ****** it. My last one was destroyed by someones tire left on the freeway

I had the same issue with a CTR replica lip like "THE PLAYER." Fitmet was shitty, it was like a little more than half an inch off. Try stretching the **** out of it but it just look like the pictures that were shown above.

for CTR replica lip.

I had the same problem with my lip from jdmshit.com (same exact lip as you), well, i found that if you sand down the front of the lip (like the part that goes under the foglights) it will allow you to push the lip back a little more withouth losing anything in the looks department in the lip.

i did that to mine, and now it fits like a glove

I thought of that exact same thing. I looked at the lip, saw that it was too short, and figured that if I strip or sand off the side where it meets the bumper, it would allow the lip to sit further back.

That's too much work though. That'll take forever to do. It's supposed to fit properly in the first place, or at least not as bad as this one did. Poor quality control.

Man that sux about the fitment. It looks good from straight head on tho. Now I understand why some people hang their llips so low on the bumper.

i have that lip too. my fitment was cool, and it came with screws, but looks bad where you mounted it. put under the bumper. if you wanna see pics of what it looks like look at past posts by member 6ghatch. he did it too his race car. it looks sweet and its easy, but you gotta watch where you dive, i broke mine and bondo'd it back together, good luck. you cant beat that lip for 80 shipped or whatever it is, its sweet

I have the same problem with my replica lips. I got some good advice from people on h-t.

Basically I had the same problem you had. I was installing the lip wrong, to make it fit nice and snug your suppose to centre the lip with equal lengths on both sides of the lip. Its a tight fit but it's not to the point where the lip is about to snap on both ends like what happend to your lip.

Maybe try fixing the lip ?, would make a good diy project I mean it is already broken try to bondo. Or you can try this. Take a heatgun and heat both sides to the point where it is almost melting BE verycarful or the plastic will warp don't want that. Then when it is hot enough mold it onto your bumper. I did this with one end of my replica ctr lip and it fits a little better. Be very cautious because I warped a little bit of my lip.

BTW props for the review

Looks good.. but next time, mount the lip in the middle first and pull the sides out. If it doesn't work you're likely not doing it right. Almost all aftermarket lips are like that.. tight fit.

when i first got my lip from newman and when fitting it onto the bumper, the driver side and passanger side ends of the lip were literally an inch away from the bumper...i thought i got jipped and whatnot, but then i remember that he suggested that i leave it out in the sun for a while until it became malleable and now the lip fits snug like a condom
