Default K series roller rockers in a B

Whats up everyone. I'm currently building a 2.0 motor with killers. Im also building a k motor for a friend. I have a couple k motors that ive torn apart to see the difference in designs and whats compatible. I have a set of rockers from a smashed a2 head and decided to see how they would fit in a b series head. I was pretty shocked to see that they fit the rail perfectly. The k rocker is a little longer but it does touch the top of the valve. I think if i modify the adjustment part of the rocker it will work. The b series rocker ratio is 1.56 which will give me .507 of lift. I measured the k rocker and got around 1.72 so i might need smaller cams. Im still in the early stages of the build and moving to a bigger shop so give me some time and i'll let you guys know how it turns out. Or try it yourself and tell me how it works

hmm........interesting.

is this has anything to do with the pistons design!

im guessing thats the K series block that comes with direct port injection.

Yeah i think putting k20a2 rockers in a B series head has alot to do with that pistons design.

lol, you tell me,lol. Ultra platics coponents. The new stuff from the K-series motor makes me scratch my head, alot. Then again, I'm sure Honda knows what they're doing if it was in production.

Its the chain tensioner, gm uses them on there vehicles which does make me think twice about the design. But the new k series blocks have some nice features like the 2 types of oil pans they use and the bottom part of the block that adds more strength to the bottom end.

Timing chain tensioners/guides (on engines which have timing chains) are commonly made out of polymers. This is not something I'd really consider a new use of materials. That piston design however, is quite unusual. You'd expect to see a complimentary combustion chamber design to go with that dome however honda kept the chambers pretty much identical to the ones we've grown to know so well!

^ True, Im pretty sure SR20's use the same type of tensioner.

Those pistons are NOT standard k20a pistons, im pretty sure those pistons are for use on the direct injection k20's.

I've personally taken apart a stock K20 from a Civic EP3 and it had these types of pistons. No special injection going on with that setup.

i was referring to the k20a type R engine and the a2, sorry i should have been more specific. Ive never bothered with a k20a3 block so i wouldnt know.

On topic, I do not think those roller rockers will work, the geometry will be wrong, and you will need a custom cam. A radius rocker cam and roller cam look completely different.

Word, were back. I was about too shoot myself if i saw another post about baseline k20 pistons.

Yeah, I would definitely need another set of custom cams. I did the math and if I used the current cams they would lift around .550 Tomorrow im going to check out the k series cam profile. Im going to call up our cam guy and see if he could make something similar to a K profile and make another set of killers for the k roller rockers. Who knows it just might work. I think the roller design would free up some hp, increase throttle response, and the cams wouldn't wear nearly as fast. I'll know more later this week on the cams.

that piston design is very common in other types of engines....Diesels more specifically

they will usually have an aluminum piston with a steel (or other hard metal) insert to prevent teh injector from actually cutting a hole in the pist (due to the fact that the fuel is injected at over 17,000psi in most cases)

I do not see a Honda injector pushing that much PSI but it is possible that a hot spotcould form and it could be there for a detonation preventative

just a little candy for thought

You generally see that type of piston on the VTEC-E engines. It helps localize the intake charge during three valve operation to aid combustion efficiency.

We will see a modified version of this when Honda's new 65:1 lean burn tech hits the USA.
