Default The $50 "Magic" intake

+16 WHP and +17 FT-LBS TORQUE at 4800 RPMs from a $50 cold air extension...now who wants to aregue that isnt a deal?

The intake tube is 38" long (from TB to filter - not including filter itself) and 3" in diameter using a generic $20 cone filter. The first part of the intak is a DC D.A.C. and the extension is made by Injen.

The runs were done back to back maybe 3-4 minutes apart, one with the extension on..the other with it off.

Looks like a classic example of ram air induction tuning designed for a specific RPM. If you experiment with different lengths you can tune that sweet spot to whatever RPM you want....

Yea the problem is I dont really have much space to add more piping. It would be nice to get that "hump" in the area of 6000-7500 or higher.

I really dont know..I would say probably about teh same size. Someone should go measure their ITR AEM intake...theyre 3" in diameter as well right?

Try going 2" shorter in steps, will have to dyno test to see how far the peak will move upward.

I "guess" about 3.5-4" shorter will raise sweet spot to about 5700-6000 rpm.

Only way to test is on the rollers.

Hmm..so shorter should move it up?

Im willing to try this out, but Ill have to wait until after the whole VTEC project..hopefully that wont get rid of the "hump".

Im guessing the intake doesnt have to have bends in it to gove these results right?

My CAI Extension is 22" long..so if I ge ta 3"x22" straight pipe it should give the same results right?
Im thinking Ill buy a 26" pipe and dyno that..then start cutting it down by 2" each run. Once I get the results I want, Ill cut my CAI extension to that length.

Sound good?

For testing, the intake not need to go though fender or whatever. YOu can lay it across the front of car. Just make sure no fans are blowing on it.

Has anyone done more testing on this.
With various diameters and lengths.

I might be...I not not be. The thing is...AEM, Comptech, etc make "generic" intakes to fit many applications. Im sure tehy havnt made one specifically for a B20 running 11.5:! compression with a Skunk2 intake manfiold and Crower cams....so my engine will react different then the Civic EX the intake was originally made for.
I already have the extra intake piping...an hour at the dyno will run me $75...so why the hell not try?

Longer intake = more torque at low rpms
Shorter intake = more torque at high rpms

That's why the GSR has variable intake length....

Well that may be true in some cases...but obviously it didnt hold water in my case. The shorter intake made LESS power EVERYWHERE.

How about measurement errors (variations) ? You really need more runs to draw some conclusions....

Measurement errors of the Dynojet.
And what was the short intake? Same diameter? Same filter? Resonance box removed? Was it exactly the same intake tube + filter but than shorter?

The dyno has a tolerance in measuring BHP (somethink like 5%)
