Do you think that with the right tools and the right smarts, a crx can be concerted to AWD with a lo
I am a student at Wyotech and for a long as i can remember i have always liked street rods and muscle cars. But i gotta get with the times yo! I've been thinking about this idea for a long time now. I know i can do this but i just need time and money. I wanted to know if its worth the time and money. I also wanted to know if anyone has ever done this before. Has anyone been stupid and crazy enough to attempt this?
i personally like the idea, BUT the CRXs body is kinda set up so that all the weight is on the front..so having a AWD would not do too much. I'm pretty sure that the AWD cars out there are ballanced with the weight over both the front and rear. So i think that it would pretty much just spin in the back for the most part. And it wouldn't be so much of a performance thing because i dont thing it would be too strong
but by all means try it. Who would have ever thought of putting a K20 in a CRX?

I've heard of people using a CR-V rear axle to make crx's awd never seen one tho if you search you can prolly find one.
Yeah someone did this not too long ago. Can't remember who. But they had a web page documenting the adventure. Sorry I'm no help
I looked into using the CRV components to convert my 88 four door to AWD, and found out that it really isnt all that hard. BUT, it will not take nicely to added power. The CRV pieces were designed to work with the CRV motor, nothing more.
What I'm getting at is, if your converting it just to do it, I say go for it. If your using it for advantages in traction for power and grip in racing condition, just get a car that's already AWD.

In one of the Honda mag's they converted an ITR into AWD. They also disconnected the FWD for a drift competetion & came in 3rd or some ****. So, the point is, yes it's possible if you have the time, money, resources, and fab skills.
also theres a guy whole lives in rockville center here in new york with a 87 crx with dual motors, a fully functioning 1.5 fwd, and an insnane supercharged oldsmobile v8 in the back runnign on alcohol. that **** is insane when he turns the other motor on.
might be more pratical then trying to get all 4 wheels spinning on such a light car....

I've seen pics of that car before. It is mean.

You have caught my interest, does anyone have the slightest idea at all where I could pick up some images of this?

Wasn't there a 4G 4dr or a hatch offered in Japan that came with factory AWD?? I think I recall a thread or an online article about it. Would be interesting to see if you could use the drive lines from that on one of our cars

Yo I seen this guy out at DPA a couple weeks ago and he didnt have the alcohol injection yet he said he was planning on doin it soon he told me he ran a 9.24 the car is CRAZY and the fact that he road out of the parking lot with the 1.5 and in the parking lot he had the v8 runnin was sick........this just goes to show you anything you want you can do with a little bit of creativity, knowledge, and time

I actually havent seen this topic braught up for a while. I remember i wanted to do it but the problem with using the CRV parts, to what i have heard, is that they wont stand up to a good amount of power. if you put any load on the rear dif it shatters. there should be some aftermarket internals for it to keep it nice and strong in there. too bad there isnt. There is not really a market for high performance CRV's. otherwise id have started this project already. it would be one kick *** road course car.
ADDITION: o yeah and im curriouse how he had a V8 back there? what kind of tranny did he use? most V8's are rearwheel drive how could he have mounted it back there? ive seen NSX motors used before but thats not as hard because its midengine. and did he run both the motors at once or just font and then just back? if he ran both at the same time wouldnt he need the exact same gear ratios on both motors? it seems like the more powerfull one would overpower the other one and make the 1.5 pointless. but thats just me thinking.
