Default FW190bvi's Official Guide to Accord Radio Codes

So, you disconnected your battery, and now your precious OEM head unit wont work. Youve torn apart ever piece of interior ABS plastic, but somehow the part number stamped onto your cup holder isnt you radio code...coincidence? i think not. Unfortunantly for you, the previous owner wasnt smart enough to write the code down in the owners manual. So what do you do now??

1. Slap yourself for not know the code first, and then make a post about it on HT *note: make sure you ask if anyone else has needed a code first, because clearly no one has ever disconnected their battery before*
2. Once your in a good enough mood to leave the darkest corner of your basment, hop into your accord, and make a run over to your local Honda dealer *note: if you really need music that badly, it is advised that you use a walkman, so you can still listen to your vanilla ice greatest hits cassette*
3. Bring in your reg. proof of insureance, liscense, and any other documents into the dealership (you never know what they'll ask for)
4. Find someone with a big HONDA name badge (or anyone else that looks important), and try to hold back your tears as you tell them you need a radio code
5. Give them any info they ask for, and once you recieve your code, write it down in your owners manual *note: the front cover/the section on the radio is a good place to write it down*
6. Come back to your flametastic HT thread, and make a wonderful post telling how you got your codes, and how you couldnt have done it without HT

there, you spend $2.13 in gas, got to take a nice cruise, and finally for your radio to work again....life doesnt get any better

Insurance.

Your info is incorrect. Honda needs the serial # from the radio unit itself to get the code. So you need to pull your deck and get the serial # prior to going into honda.

Maybe 1/10 cars we can pull the code from the VIN alone, depends if they enter it when the car is PDI'd.

the VIN is supposed to get entered when the car gets PDI'd. some dealerships just fail to do so... and technically, they're not supposed to give the code out based solely on the serial code.

so actually, fw190bvi was correct. the proper "procedure" that honda dealerships are supposed to follow is to go out to your car, match the VIN on your car to the VIN on your insurance, make sure that the car is indeed yours, and wam-bam-thank-you-ma'am, there's your code. but as Accord94DX said, some dealerships fail to enter the VIN, so you'll probably want to get the serial # off the radio too.

exactly, hence the lines " Bring in your reg. proof of insureance, liscense, and any other documents into the dealership (you never know what they'll ask for)," and "Give them any info they ask for"
