Default P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (bank no. 1) means?

the car is an 00 accord completly stock.. i've cleared the code once and its back again so i'm wondering what exactly does this mean? O2 sensor? Thanks

Catalyst is your catalytic converter........... it might be a mixture of that and your o2 sensor.......

so you think replace the cat or the o2 sensor? o2 sensor usually right?

well its kinda hard to say, sometimes reading the codes for other vehicles it will say " o2 sensor bank1 #2" some cars have 4 o2 sensors so this is saying drivers side downstream sensor.......

i havent really come across reading a faulty o2 sensor as a catalyst........ i really think its your catalytic converter but an o2 sensor may be a cheaper route to try, especially if its past due.......
