Hey i have a 96 ek hatch but its an auto . i want to convert it to a manual. i was thinking about buying a manual motor and swapping it. will it cost extra to have it installed?

 

I know that you need a manual transmission and dont need a new motor.

 

umm sounds to me that this is going to be to big of a project for you no offence or anything but there is alot involed in a auto/man swap first you need the pedals hydrolics ecu trany and your going to have to cut some stuff to get thos pedals to fit but it would be much easyer to just sell your car and buy a man. but thats just my $.02 and i wasent trying to flame you if you took it that way

 

yeah this sounds like a bit much for you being you don't know enough about automobiles to know that auto manual is no difference in the motor.

but this has been covered many many times now.. so search would be your best start

 

i'm doing an auto to manual right now, and i'll admit, its a headache...there are many topics on this, but i won't use the ever popular "use the search key" approach, I'll just let you know:

items you need

manual transmission (with clutch and flywheel) (duh)
starter for a manual (they bolt up differently)
clutch slave cylinder
clutch master cylinder
clutch hardlines
pedal assembly
shift linkage
shifter
shift boot
shift ****
misc. nuts and bolts
an ecu is optional, keeping the auto ecu will give you a CEL for auto shift solenoid, but it does not affect performance, so that can wait till later when you do an obdII-obdI conversion

you also need to cut a hole for the shifter to come up into the car

from a junkyard i got:

pedal assembly: 80 dollars
shift linkage with short shifter: 50 dollars
clutch master cylinder with resivoir: 20 dollars
from honda:

clutch hardlines: 20+- dollars

and from a friend:

d-series tranny with clutch and flywheel and starter and slave cylinder: 150 dollars


then its just really a matter of getting all that **** in your car, you will need to go under the dash on the drivers side, look for a blue box next to your ignition, disconnect the harness leading into it, that box makes it so you can't take your key out unless the car is in park, when you disconnect it, you can pull the key out any time....I wish you luck, and like I said there are many helpful posts around here, just search and you can find everything on here
