Choose your favorite QUIET exhaust... (No Mugen Twin Loop)
(This is my first stupid poll so don't flame....)
I am having a hard time deciding which exhaust for my psuedo Civic Type R. All I have is a stock DX so I need something to use for my upcoming swap. I am looking for something quiet that flow well. As well as having a small muffler tip. Nothing that is going to ask for trouble from street racers and law enforcement.
Please make your decision on the following criteria...
1.) Sound (I want it to sound like a tuned race car... basically what the Type R is)2.) Appearance (small tip, good construction, etc.)
3.) Price Value (is it worth more money for this one or for that one...)
(I really like the look of the Spoon "street" muffler because it has a small tip and the sound is supposedly great. I just don't know whether $600-700 for a muffler is worth it. I am also considering the Fujitsubo Legalis R catback, but that system is almost as expensive as the Mugen twin-loop.)
Everyone has heard of the other exhausts, but here is the Fujitsubo info:

I'd go with SMSP custom exhaust.
I heard it on a modded B18C1 and it sounds just right. (not loud, not quiet) Plus, it's total stealth!
SMSP is definitely my top 3 choice for the exhaust. (Mugen and RS*R being the other.)

Garth,
You selected the WRONG Fujitsubo exhaust; the Legalis is not available for Hondas.
The RM-01A is made for Hondas; it is full SUS304 stainless (thin wall for light weight); the full catback for the EK9 is only 10.5kg (23lbs), versus 17.1kg (38lbs) for the stock exhaust. I've seen it in person, and it is gorgeous.

Kakimoto R has my vote! Full stainless cat back tig welded construction, not too loud, meaning under 96dbs, but one set back; JDM spec. It depends though, if you are going to run a test pipe or JDM spec Headers, then this exhaust will work out great! If not you will have to shorten the cat or shorten the mid pipe.
My friend has the apex WS and its super quiet(stock sounding) without a cat. With a cat, I cant imagine how quiet it would be. It looks ok on his ek, all you see is a 4" tip.
Cosworth - Does SMSP have a website???
ReBornGSR - Mugen is too expensive, plus the CTR version has a 54mm bottleneck before the resonator
hybrider93 - How does the ES muffler sound? I might as well just get a magnaflow muffler. I think it is the same thing. The guys at ES are a-holes so I don't want to support them. Thanks for the tip though.
Kengs - Actually the Fujitsubo Legalis R is available. Check this out:

I do like the looks of the RM-01A. I am wondering how loud it is.
TodaR - Which Kakimoto exhaust are you referring to? All the ones I have seen have HUGE tips on them. I don't want anything bigger than 90mm (3.5").
Elements - Thanks for the info. I was thinking about the WS system but the tip is too big.
Thanks for all your responses...

Oh, just saw the pics of the SMSP exhaust. It looks real good, but it is just a Magnaflow muffler and resonator. If it comes down to it, I will just have a local muffler shop fabricate one for me.
I already have a leftover section of a 2.5" b-pipe with the same magnaflow resonator. From the ole' Civic Si days...

The SMSP 2.5" cat back system was very nice. Dave has different lenghts in resonators too. It's quiet and will not get you in trouble as with an N1 at WOT.

Kakimoto R would be my choose too, have it on my car for 5 months, love every bit of it so far!!
Still the only Honda have it in the city I live in.
Yeh, it will be even nicer if the tip is like 0.5" smaller, but oh well!!

I've had ApexI RS sport, which is know replaced by ApexI WS sports (I believe). that thing is really quiet compare to N1 mufflers. I have heard the RSR exhaust system is very quiet too
MUGEN is expensive but I think well worth it... if your current engine set up is not FI then Mugen is for you the "bottle neck" should not be an issue.
What you want with a exhaust is something that has a fast flow with no restriction...if the piping is too big then the exhaust has no momentum or constant flow of a well piped exhaust that will keep the exhaust fast flowing with no back pressure. Mugen knows what they are doing and that exhaust will work fine and well worth the price, plus its JDM

If you look at the pictograms the RM-01A is classified in the "medium" sound level, just like the Legalis R. There is a sound file you can click on:

The quality of the lightweight B-pipe is fantastic, and you should have NO fitment problems since you have an EK hatch.

I don't know what all of you guys are thinking.. but the QUIETEST exhaust aside from stock is RS*R. Those who have heard it, know the sound.
Good luck finding one now.
