Default Friend’s Type R Stolen Today 9/23/2004 – Madison WI

This is my best friend’s Type R so it really hits the nerves hard. We’ve known each other since High School. I would not want this to happen to anyone but Justin is way too nice to have his pride and joy stolen. Previously a Honda technician, he regularly helps me with car maintenance and other projects listed on my site. His parents live right near me (Milwaukee Suburb) but it was stolen in Madison Wisconsin.

Theft Details:
Stolen From West Town Mall – West Side of Madison – Just before 8:00 PM
Car had an Acura security system. There were witnesses and apparently several younger guys did the job. Apparently the alarm went off and the ECU was swapped to defeat the immobilizer. Car was driven away.

His car has a King Motorsports built motor (only a few thousand miles on the motor since rebuild) 15,000 miles odometer. The car is MINT – engine and engine bay is super clean. Here’s the list of parts to look out for.

FLAG ITEMS
Red Valve Cover – Blue Spark Wires (NGK) – Black AEM Intake
JDM Recaro Seats – JDM SRS Steering Wheel – HID kit

DETAILED ENIGINE PARTS
AEM intake
AEM fuel pressure regulator
Toda spec B cams
Toda valve springs
Toda Cam gears
Toda timing belt
Toda oil pump gear
NGK plug wires
NGK platinum VX spark plugs
Ferrea valves
Ferrea titanium retainers
CTR .10 over balanced pistons
Mugen headgasket
Mugen thermostat
Mugen thermoswitch
Mugen radiator cap & oil cap
Mugen Oil pan
ARP Rod Bolts
Spoon drain plug bolts
Mugen header
Mugen Cat back exhaust

~ENGINE WORK~
70mm bored throttle body
port matched intake manifold
5 angle valve job
head port & polish (wild)
blueprinted & balanced crank, rods & pistons
.10 overbored cylinders (1805 cc.)
lightened flywheel

I’m going to bed soon. I had a 5 hour migraine and puked my guts out. Then I heard news of my Friend’s car being stolen. Days don’t get much worse. I’ll check tomorrow and follow up on leads.

FYI – We are aware of this eBay B18C5 auction. This was just posted and the motor has the same specs and miles of my friends motor so we are in the process of contacting the seller (listed tonight after the car was stolen). Seems a too coincidental! Please don’t email the seller. Anyone know the best way to aquire contact information on eBay WITHOUT participating in an auction?

Pictures of his car

He swapped back the RED VALVE COVER so remember that change.

the auction does not have the same stats listed as you say

but then again it does say jdm and b18c5 and b18c5 is usdm, jdm they would say b18c

it would be bad if the people who stole it happen to come accross this post becaus then they would know they just made a shitload of money with all the parts,
there are alot of parts that were worth alot of money so some upgraded security should have been a no brainer for this guy,

i wish you guys luck with finding some of the parts then if you find a couple of the parts you can pin the popel down who are selling them and get some leads to the jackers, and then its game over for them, jail time, you can sue them even if all the parts are recoverd AND coverd by the insurance company, i just wish you guys the best of luck becaus that is ALOT of ****

this sounds and looks like one of the nicest type-Rs on the road
just to read that list of parts and the condition it is in, its numbing and painful. best of luck to your search and recovery .

someone on the board knew what was going down it was just a matter of time to find out who.. check this thread https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1001069 he hence deleted all his posts about a warning of an itr getting stolen in the WIS area after he mentioned that he called the cops implying the theft had already taken place. Hope he gets those thieves.

i'm with him, that ebay motor has jdm intake manifod, exhaust headers, and valve cover. they (us importer) usually either mark the motor b18c5 or type R so that way they could recognize it when they are unloading. you have to remember, that most dock workers don't know how to identify motors,so they mark them and putting b18c on all of them would be just confusing.
good luck on the search.

looks like there was a lot of money invested in that car that insurance probably wont pay for.

Sorry to hear about his loss.

Damn, sorry to hear about your friend's misfortunes. It sounds like he had a great car. I think he should have invested much more money into security first instead of those parts. Wish him luck on the location and recovery of his car for me.

if someone hacked my ebay and postshit for sale, i would have reported it and take the auction down asap.and not just make that coment. it seems like he still want the guy to be able to sell it, but he does not want anything to do with the sale. must be a real fishy deal,

They look like two completely different engines, but how long does it take to swap a valve cover and an exhaust header? Not to long...20 minutes?

The seller blaitently stating that someone jacked his ebay account and the engine is for sale in the area of the car being stolen...****, you guys, come on now, thats too much to be coinsedence. I wouldn't put it past the thieves. They are not smart...that is why they steal.

I bet the guys figure everyone is looking for them and need to dump some hot items quick, but it's going to **** them up.

I had about $4000.00 in surf boards stolen from me about four years ago. Shortly after, the thief posted them on ebay (stupid ******) and he was caught.

That royally sucks that your car got stolen. This website went almost two weeks with no thefts then three in two days.

man that sucks that ur freind's R got stolen...

but since ur freind's car was in fact an R w/ built motor there should have been autolock - lojack - kill switch.... something else that would have stopped the theft

i dont mean to point out the obvious about the ebay auction but people dont always use the origional pictures you know, and a fresh imported type r marked b18c5 in wisconsin?? excuse my geography but thats not exactly on the coast so it shant be to fresh of an import

the guy doesnt have to post the exact picture and alot of the time they dont

if the guy sais somebody cracked into his ebay account and tells you to email the person who listed it??? wtf??? seriousley, just everyone bid like 5grand on that motor and the freind of the kid who got it jacked and bid 10grand and ask to pick up the motor

and yes he should have had alot more security on that **** but its to late now, some of that stuff HAS to turn up

By you listing all the modifications done to the motor, now the thieves probably will know what exactly is done to the motor. That is if they are on this message forum.

Thanks for everyone’s help! With any luck the police (and us) will track these people down.

Not sure about my friend’s insurance but I have MSI, now called Country Insurance. I spoke to them about insurance coverage of aftermarket parts in the event of theft of my vehicle. They said aftermarket parts will in fact be covered as long as they are documented, without paying a higher premium.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by KOALA YUMMIES &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I always ask this same questiong but:

It was equipped with the standard immobilizer system and Acura keyless entry alarm system. Doors were locked and the alarm was armed.

Humm, okay. That's easy to say as a bystander in retrospect of a car being stolen. This could be suggested if he had any level of security. As we all know, if thieves want your car they will get it. Dozen's of Type R's on this board have been stolen despite security measures such as lojack, kill switches, etc.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by FatBoy4door2 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">i dont mean to point out the obvious about the ebay auction but people dont always use the origional pictures you know, and a fresh imported type r marked b18c5 in wisconsin??</TD></TR></TABLE>

You are right on. The picture does not mean anything. And although the specifications and listing are slightly different that could have been changed to help conceal the theft. We still don't really know if this motor is the same - simply a possibility, a strong one.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by EM1b18cR &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">By you listing all the modifications done to the motor, now the thieves probably will know what exactly is done to the motor.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Not much we can do about this. Informing the thieves about what they have does not really change anything. Getting the details to a watchful community so everyone knows what to look for is still worth this downside.
