Default Oil Leak! :( NEED HELP PLZ.

I have a 98 honda prelude and i need some help where to find a diagram of where the engine oils passes thru, THRU OUT THE WHOLE ENGINE and line. HERES THE REASON Y.. one day the oil just started spilling from the bottm of the car just above or around the oil filter..not alot but couple drops..then after days went by more oil starting dropn..i cleaned the bottom the car. made sure it was clean and then i checked it again and tried to see where the oil is coming from..the oil spills more when the car is on..it does not seem like its comen from the valve cover or the engine Head. no oil stains around the top of the engine..the oil appears to be coming from somewhere else underneath the car.. TO ME IT SEEMS LIKE ITS COMEN FROM AROUND THE OIL FILTER..BUT I CLEANED IT ONCE AND IT STILL LOOKS CLEAN. SO THAT CANT BE IT..??? I NEED SOME HELP..ITS PISSN ME OFF WITH ALL THOSE OIL SPILLS EVERYWHERE..SO THERE FOR I WANT TO KNOW WHERE ALL THE OIL PASSES THRU AFTER IT LEAVES THE ENGINE.

Correct, it sounds like the oil cooler o-ring. I've seen plenty of these leak on the older H22s.

I did mine a couple weeks ago. No problems. Just take out the one 30mm bolt holding the cooler in place and replace the oring. Make sure to remove all the junk from the old oring, and keep the new one on with a little grease while you tighten the bolt back. iirc that bolt gets tightened to 54 lbs.

Thanks to everybody who has had this problem in the past and posted. I about had a heart attack when I saw oil gushing out of my block. You guys saved me a lot of time figuring out the problem.

Interesting. My car leaks oil like nothing else and my mom always complains how it is dirtying up the garage. I have a 5th gen auto.

1) So where exactly is this "oil cooler o-ring"?
2) Is it also on automatics?

thanks

The oil cooler is between the oil filter, and the engine block. it is the thing that the oil filter screws into.

ooo ok thanks. I guess I will do that when I get my next oil change. I am guessing that it costs like 5 bucks.

They're super cheap from the dealer. I paid exactly $2.45. Keep an eye on it really close until your next change. Mine was leaking pretty slow for the most part, but one day it started gushing pretty hard and emptied pretty much everything out in no time. I would get to it as soon as you can.

Thanks silver, mine has been leaking for over an year. Whenever I asked the honda people they said they couldnt tell because there was oil every where under the engine. I am gonna lift my car soon and see if that is really where it is coming from.

Could it be possibly coming from where engine and the trannsmission meet? Is that possible?

Thanks

Not sure on the part number. I just went to the dealer and requested the o-ring for the oil cooler. The guy at the parts counter didn't even need to look it up. I guess it's a pretty common thing for them, and they're probably the same part number for a lot of models.

I just barely did this a bout a week ago. the part number is 91316-PT6-003. I bought the lude for $250 because the guy thought he had a blown engine, and when i got to looking I found out that this "o-ring" was the only problem the car had. lol
anyways, when you do it make sure you use some brake parts cleaner to clean the area first. then apply a little honda bond to the o-ring to keep it in place. If not, its a B*tch and a half to keep that thing in the little grove. It might have been easier if it wasnt 10 deg out side when I did it.

i have a swapped h22a in my 98, just did the oil cooler seal, as it started gushing right around when it started getting cold, mine was hard as a rock and broken in 1 spot. Mine did seem a little big, but i used a little grease to hold it in place, i had to balance it kinda, it didnt fit the grove very well but with a little patience and a little poking with my scribe it fit just fine and now im leak free-

best thing to do is go to a honda dealership parts department. tell them you need a "oil filter housing gasket" (official name for it). it costs $2.88 and it will be the exact fit to your car. its a rubber ring. i just had the same problem happen to me...apparently it was so old that it turned hard as a rock and broke into little pieces while my car was parked up
