Make your own dust boots for coilovers !!..... pics inside..!
Ok, so I was assembling my Ground Control coilovers with Tokico Illuminas to go on my CRX the other day and it was kind of bothering me that I had to remove almost all of the original dust boot. This is not a BIG deal but I really would feel much better if I had some kind of protection for the shaft area of the shock. After all, they are not the cheapest shocks out there and I want them to last a good long time. So….I decided to make my own dust boots for them. Check it out…..it’s quite simple….

they are quite strong, but perhaps not if they've already been punctured.
props for creativity though. It gave me a laugh.

you shoulda used magnums XL..
I actually doubled them up so there are two on each shock (8 used total). I cut a small slit in the tip of the latex to fit around the top part of the shaft, then strected them over what was left of the original dust boot and pulled them down to the shock body. There is a little lip around the top of the shock body which retains them quite well. When you put the top of the shock assembly back on the rubber bushing on the underside pinches the latex between itself and the top of the original dust boot, which should hold it pretty good. The condoms are not really under much tension even with the shock fully extended, so they will be even less so when the shocks are on the car and compressed a bit. It's safe suspension......

Seriously, that is a great idea!
pretty nasty, but funny. alwell if it works then it works.

Actually, I will be puttings these on the car this weekend. I will see how it goes after a few days of hard driving and report back. I really think they will work just fine...

Take those things off. They don't hold up to grease and heat well.
They will probably cause you more trouble than they're worth.

Thats a great idea! Like some said i dunno if they will last though. I mean I figure that they will dry out pretty quick.
