Default OBX LSD + FAST CAR = Broken

I had/have an obx lsd in my 2000 civic. It lasted 2 track passes then broke! the [freak]ing diff. locked up and broke my damn gator axle. This diff. had under 850 miles on it. I kinda think that they are horrible cause this is ridiculous. Because of the diff going bad i pulled the transmission yesterday in the Radford College parking lot and there are metal shavings everywhere! This is stupid because my tranny was built for drag racing yet streetable. Im running type r 1st and 2nd. Gsr 3rd 4th n 5th. i will post pics up in a few hours and i need some help in pulling the lsd. I got the case off and the gear set out of the way. Now do i need to pull the lsd bearings ? if so i assume i need to use a gear puller...... im a noob at messing with trannys so sorry guys. please help me out. Should i send the diff back or just invest in a real lsd like a Quafe?

No pics of damage, how do you know it was the LSD and not installer error?

Pull the diff out with your hands.

If the diff did fail, see if you can get a refund and invest in an MFactory LSD.

Just wondering. When you got the OBX lsd did you took everything apart clean it. And replace the belleville spring washer and bolts.

I'm assuming if he doesn't know how to remove it, that he didn't rebuild the diff

I'm guessing installation error. I have run several OBX LSD's and so have many local drag cars that run low 10's with no issues

OBX's QC has been crap lately, I'm not willing to even mess with then anymore.

Awaiting MFactory D-series LSD to play with.

I haven't played with an OBX for almost 2 years now...

I wish there was a 3rd option

After I get everything settled with my current and only OBX, I'm done with them.

i know it is the diff because one side locks an the other one skips. i have no idea because all the work was done by a performance shop that most likely never did the field strip and rebuild it. i pulled the diff today but have to wait to go to the machine shop on friday to pull the bearings

Divide your Ramen noodles into two meals per pack and you'll have enough in no time.

Pull the diff apart and see how the gears and washers look inside.

What was the diff bearing clearance, or did you even check?

Races look ok, just crap on them from whatever ate itself up.

Tear the diff apart and inspect. I'd also tear the stacks down. Failed needle bearings for the gears can do some nasty stuff even though everything looks ok before stack teardown.

wow.... on both of us.

That's not even an OBX LSD...appears to be the viscous LSD from JDM B16 transmissions. I've had to replace several of those due to internal needle bearing failure.

Whoever sold you an "OBX" LSD was wrong

If this statement is true. To the OP... How dare you give OBX a bad name.
