title change just for better searching

well i wanted to find a way to help coolant and under the hood temps. im not to fond of the hood prop I didnt think it was that effective. I'm getting the car painted so i dont mind the scratches.

the only thing i need to do is add the expanded metal which will be painted the same color of the car car bondo to hold it up.

i will be datalogging today or tommorow, gotta spend time with the wife in the afternoon. Im sure that this will drop my temps 10-20. right now with bumper off and no cut it is 205ish, beating on it in 100+ temps

I expect 195-200 at the most

and the block off plate looks like it will prolly give you less flow for your intercooler.

it's behind the IC it can't give me less low through it. all it does it direct the air to the radiator.

Exactly. Do you understand how air moves? Its going to hit a brick wall and bounce off that plate.

 

what about the rain? i did that idea before but i fabbed up a sheet metal scoop to go over it similar to wrx scoop type and i never had a problem..

 

Probably shark fins style pointing downwards would be more effective as well as good looking. Also might be worth investing in a used plasma cutter, just draw your lines or use a template and run the cutter along (like hot knife through butter).

yeah i understand and i know air has to go the path of least resistance. i thought about the air hitting like a brick. i've seen people do it both ways. im going to try both with it on and off.

better yet. i can make the block o on the top half then keep the bottom open were the ic is.

im happy with the tools i had at home. i cant fit anymore until i get my shed built

I did that same thing and it definitely helps the engine temps...

 

I might want to get a second hood and do this as the mod. Maybe do it with the CF hood and find myself a nice stock one to repaint.

 

Update us with the datalogs when u get a chance please.

 

i like the way it looks with a C/F hood. I wanted stock as possible though

It will go the path of less resistance although he ruined the surface area the air covers through the intercooler .

Exactly, it will pass through the IC but it wouldn't flow nowhere near as good if the plate wasn't there. Not to mention there is not much of a gap between the plate and IC.

This isn't appearance cosmetic .

 

works rather well id say y not let the heat out right from were its being made
evos have been doing this for year s along with road racers and autocross cars
looks good (not my evo by the way ) keep us posted

 

The plate next to the rad was not my idea, he confused that with what i was recommending, which was making a plate to go under the intercooler, between the ic and the rad, to keep the air from going under the rad.

The hood vent was "my" idea, though it's nothing new, just how it was done.

thats the reason i didnt do it, and i was slightly confused when i talked to tony after taking a step back to look at it i saw where it just wasnt enough room for air to flow

thanks, no one said it was a new invention while we were at the dyno he just gave me diff idea before i started having over heating problems.

I think its always good to have another person to see thing from a different point of view than yourself. Sometimes We (I know I do) get closed minded or have brain blocks and can't see the simple things

i never said it wasn't common sense and I'm sure it's been discussed. This is a spin off of a post that i am participating in to help people like myself who didn't think of it or didnt see the post.

Also Im going to data log to show a true difference instead of saying......"It does help" Im going to show my numbers when it gets a little hotter today.

I beat it as hard as i could safely and could not get it past 197. by the time i tried to take the picture at 197, the temp had dropped back down again within a few seconds after i stopped.
