Default bpi stack and filter

just recieved my bpi stack w/ k&n filter and installed it... and even attatched to the stock intake arm it is a world of difference from the comptech drop in and stock box. throttle response is 10x's better and it definitly breaths much better in the top end. ill have the set up on an aem cold air set up as soon as my buddy digs the intake out of storage.

i cant believe what i was missing out on... and with my current set up the motor definitly breathes deeper.. wish i had some dyno figures but thats not going to happen till summer..

for the bpi product.. it took a little while to get up here. but you can expect that living in alaska

Bpi stack is awesome, had it for about 6 months on mine, then switched to the comptech icebox. I was getting tired of the heatsoak with that huge filter.

funny seeing another BPi thread in the same week! i've had concerns about heatsoak, but i think it'd be minimal. ...just look at the dyno sheets on BPi's site. i also have the comptech icebox and i haven't run that setup yet, but it think it'd be tit for tat. i've also seen member BSQ's 4" "icetake" setup similar to the mugen (albeit, DIY quality) and i'll probably run that instead of the comptech when it's all said and done. one setup that would be interesting to see is the oem arm/bpi stack/K&N RU-1048 filter, and the bottom part of the icetake setup so that you'd have the benefits of the velocity stack/K&N filter setup with the cold air benefits of the icetake setup. granted, you won't have the vacuum effect drawing air in since it wouldn't be sealed between the two, but if you were to run this on the track and took off the front right turn signal and had the inlet of the icetake tube right at the opening of the turn signal acting like a ram horn, it'd work.

Heatsoak is pretty noticebale in the summer when the BPI after a half an hour or so of driving. Don't get me wrong, BPI stack is a great product, but maybe the dyno's were done on a cool engine. I could really tell on the butt dyno, when the engine was cool. It also doesn't help that I have the T1R header giving off all the heat.

The homemade icebox idea sounds good too. I'm going to try and use the bpi stack on a custom k&n filter inside the icebox. I just haven't found the right filter yet to accept the comptech pipe.

you'd have to find a really, really unique filter to:
1. mate up correctly with the BPi velocity stack
2. fit into the OEM or comptech icebox

...you may end up having to fab up a custom icebox out of fiberglass or something somewhat easy... when and if you get it together...

Ive been searching for a while now for the exact dimensions of the filter I need on the K&N site. I've come close, but nothing exact. I'm going to keep with the icebox, I don't really have time to fab up a custom one. When I find a filter the same size as the comptech foam one, I'll let you guys know.

I use one for the Race Track but mine is setup out of the headlight.
Of course only for the track though or I might swallow up a bird

not a bad deal. you can just buy the BPI velocity stack straight from BP Intitiatives (or HT like i did) and get the RF-1048 off Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00062ZNEA for 40 shipped or off HT for less (like i did )

apparently it was molded out of a desktop garbage can...I'm pretty sure just hacking one up will do the trick too.

Any pictures of that setup? I'd like to see the bottom, I'm assuming its opened ended. Its almost comical but so simple in thought process/design.

x2. "comical" doesn't even cut it. screw it... i'm stealing that idea. what i would proably do is somehow "cap" off the top of the trash can so you could create a better vacuum, though.... then you can have a trash can lid to throw stuff away or store stuff.

I doubt it, styrofoam wouldn't handle heat very well.
