Default Best coilover setup

Well beginning next year i want to upgrade my coilovers (crappy ebay ones) because i want to get into auto x...there are so many brands out there and i want to see what is recommended...i'll list the ones i have heard of but feel free to add ones you think are better

I'm preferrably looking for something with adjustable dampening

dampening: moistening; the act of making something slightly wet.

I think you meant adjustable damping.

My vote goes for GC/Konis, a proven auto-x combination.

KSport Kontrol Pro Coilovers

JLB is the #1 distributor for the KSport line of coilovers.

All kits are 36-way dampening adjustable and feature adjustable lower strut mount to adjust ride height while retaining optimal shock travel. The threads are teflon coated for smooth adjustment and to prevent rust

???

ok...

Ehhh k-sports is trash IMO.

After owning them I have nothing good to say about them. If you want to adjust height easly, and something alot stiffer then I would go with K-sports, but otherwise stay away.

Cut springs from a Kia

Serious good option, LoL

I've got a Koni/GC setup I just got, I've heard almost nothing but good. However if you have the money, it will not beat out a high end full coilover like Pic or Teins. (IMO, I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to suspension)

They aren't "36-way adjustable." I get so sick of these generic companies advertising that farce, and its obvious that they know more about marketing than suspension.

I've never seen a damper that has been more than 4-way adjustable, and those cost $2500 per corner.

K-sports are 1-way adjustable - compression and rebound simultaneously. If they were separate adjustments it would be 2-way adjustable. There are 36 adjustment steps or settings.

better yet, if there are no clicks at all, they are infinity-ways adjustable. Infinity!

but seriously, one thing to add is that no matter how many different damping settings you have, it is important that the damping changes as you adjust the dial or turn the ****. Otherwise, you get a bunch of damping curves overlaid on each other with each setting not making much difference over the previous and following setting.

btw I voted for PIC. the poll is now skewed, sorry folks.

I'm glad someone gets it. This whole XX way adjustability is marketing garbage.

I'm currently running the omnipower sport full coilovers that are adjustible which are decent and I haven't had problems with them. But if I had the money I would invest in a set of Koni yellows with the GC's and custom spring rates.

I always assumed it was just the typically poor "Engrish" translation from Japanese.

Similar to how "spherical bearing" suddenly became "pillow ball" when its attached to a JDM suspension.

If its actually deliberately misleading advertising, well, then its time to file a false advertising lawsuit, and to boycott the products...

I have meGan-Racing coilovers. If you want the best adjustable coilovers I suggest these. It comes with adjustable Ride-Height, Spring- Pre Load that are fully independent of one another, as well as 32 levels of Dampening

LEVEL 1~8: suggest for race tracks use
LEVEL 9~16: suggest for mountain anfractuosity use
LEVEL 17~32: suggest for street use

They are $900 and so far thats one of the best investments I have made to my car.

Wow you go and say 32 way adjustable after it's been shown that's BS right above.

Genius.

Ok so I made an easy chart to show someone what all these damping adjustments mean.

First we will start off with a coilover that has good damping adjustments and range. A good coilover should have each adjustment click, and have a noticable difference between each adjustment. Its softest setting should feel soft, and its hardest setting should feel hard

Here's a diagram (example: tiens, skunk2, PIC, buddyclub, few others)

]

Next is a coilover with bad damping adjustments. A bad coilover is hard to distinguish which adjustment you are on. Instead of clicks for each adjustment, the **** keeps spinning untill you reach the max adjustment or min adjustment. This makes it hard to get precise adjustments. Also the softest setting tends to feel no different than the hardest setting. Meaning soft is hard, and hard is harder!

Here's a diagram (k-sports, NEX, and almost all 32-36 way adjustable coilovers)

I hope this discription is correct to those suspension freaks . It just bothers me to see how many people don't know the difference. If this info is wrong please correct me b/c I don't want to be spreading the wrong info.

He said there are 32 different clicks not 32 way adjustable. And there may be 36 clicks, but a certain number of the clicks don't necessarily have a huge impact on the shock as shown above in the shock dyno graph. I've built plenty of shocks with 60+ clicks, but once you reach a certain point the adjustment needle inside the shaft is no longer restricting flow through the shaft jet, so it is still "clicking" but not changing a thing to the actual damping.

Well I can tell you from personal experience that the lower chart is wrong at least for Ksport coilovers.I have them on my Accord right now and the softest adjustment is pretty soft but not super soft and the hardest is totally unbearable for daily driving.I have heard that Tein coilovers are a little stiff for a lot of people so again, your chart may be inaccurate.

I can also tell you that in Ksports, the damping may say 32 way,and it is technically by the amount of clicks, but you won't feel the difference between a few clicks.I would say that they are probably four way adjustable, dividing the 32 by 4,with each level being noticeably different.

That's my two cents.<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by projektCD7 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I have meGan-Racing coilovers. 17~32 for street use!? I'm assuming that level 1 is the hardest and level 32 is the softest,I always thought it was the other way around.A friend of mine bought some Megan's for his STI and he says they are great.I was gonna get them for my Accord but I chickened and cheaped out and got the Ksports.

I post K-sports on there b/c I also owned them (also owned NEX), and Soft was not soft at all. I don't know if the roads you drive are some perfect road that you drive in gran turismo, but I disagree with your comment. That and an example of a coilover doesn't mean my graph is wrong. I was just trying to suggest what I feel is a bad coilover.

Hey I totally understand what you are saying but the streets here are not very good and I can honestly say that the softest setting is pretty good. How long ago did you have your Ksports because maybe they improved them since you had yours.Mine are pretty good, better than the last set up I had,Tokico blues(don't judge,I got the car like that) and GC's.
