Default GT Motoring/J's Racing DC5

I'm not on here very much, but I thought I'd share a few pics of my DC5 (and GT Motoring's S2000) that we had taken the other week.

It's still under development as we're looking into fabricating a roll cage and a headlight pass-through intake, in addition to some other things in terms of weight reduction, bigger exhaust and possibly wider front wheels and larger brakes.

While I'd relish the challenge of wheel-to-wheel racing, the car is somewhat over-modified in some parts to fall into certain classifications and under-modified for other race classes, so it's primarily a time attack and HPDE car. On top of that, I don't have the budget to run in wheel-to-wheel competition anyway.

Here's a few pics...they're not really professional by any means, nor have they been photoshopped to make the cars look their prettiest, but it's all I've got for the time being:

Pics from last HPDE event:

A couple REALLY crude videos of the car in action:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLZ0n4nWvzI

Info on this clip: These clips were taken during 3 different outings at GingerMan raceway in South Haven, MI. The first two laps were done with pretty much a bone-stock RSX, but I had stickier Kumho Victoracers, which worked pretty well. The 3rd lap is when I started getting a bit mod-crazy, but didn't pay enough attention to tuning the car properly. As you can see, even though I slapped on a ton of go-fast parts, the car was actually slower. The street tires and colder weather also played a hand in the poor performance of the car, but it's a good illustration of how properly setting up a car can be crucial. Quality over quantity.

This is from my most recent HPDE event at the new Iowa Speedway. While the recording is pretty much garbage (my GF's first time really ever using a camcorder) take note of the relative position of the DC5 and the S2000 each time as they go by...we were able to really work up the field on the track, even running ahead of some really fast Mustangs.

As you can see, my budget doesn't allow for much on the video-editing side of things as well, lol.

Thanks guys!

Yeah, I love those RE30s.

I'm looking to see if I can get some 17x9.0 in the front to get a little more grip. With the J's Racing 1.5-way LSD, this car is a completely different animal and I know that the drivetrain is just begging for some more rubber to chew up.

EDIT: Our S2000 has gotten a bit faster since that video in Iowa, too...so I'll have my hands full even keeping up with him now! :D

I've asked before about the Buddy Club seats (I have my own and have used them for all 3 track days this year...HPDE that is)

But now that you actually got to use them, how'd you like them?

I'm surprised with how much I like them, actually. For a lower-cost seat, they really hold pretty well. I can definitely see how a more expensive seat could be better, but honestly, they're such an improvement over what I was using before that I can't complain one bit.

In fact, I never even really thought about them until the weekend was over, which is probably a good thing. In past events, my abs and back would be a little sore from trying to hold myself up straight when cornering, but had no problems at all the last time I was out.

I did get a little sore in the shoulders and arms, but that was from trying to hold my line at 90mph in a tight banked oval (something I had never done before). I hate to say it, but I've got a bit more respect for those NASCAR guys after doing that.

I don't even want to imagine what it would have been like trying to drive like that in my stock seats though!

Yea surprisingly they do hold well...in all honesty though I see more Buddy Club seats being utilized on the track days I've gone to down here in SoCal.

I sat in the Recaro SPG and Bride Zeta III (I wanted a bling bling name lol) but neither held me as well as the Buddy Club...

Yoiu mention 17x9 (I've been thinking of a pair myself of RPF1s)....are you using ITR LCAs and such? What offsets do you have in mind? I'm not sure if +45mm will hit on the inside, or if +35mm will hit the fender lol. (I have 17x8 +35mm all around right now, rears are a tight fit, fronts I can fit more but that's due to my camber...all this on USDM LCAs.)

Yeah, I'm running the ITR LCAs. We actually test-fitted the S2000 RE30s and found that they'd be alright on the fender if it were rolled slightly, but there was a potential for rubbing on the inside...I'm not sure what offset he had though. We discussed possibly throwing on the J's Racing wide front fenders and then going with something like a +48 up front, which will probably clear both ways if we go with bigger fenders, although it's still kinda tricky to tell. While it's total and complete overkill (I mean, you see most of the DC5s in Japan racing with the OEM Brembos) I've pondered throwing the J's Racing 6-piston caliper kit from the S2000 on as well. Only problem is that it's ungodly expensive, and probably isn't that necessary.
