JDM Swap TPS Question
Hey guys whats up.
Ok so here is the deal.
Awhile ago I swapped in a JDM B16a SIR-I obd0 swap into my
90DA rs. (No Debating on the B16 swap, Dont wanna hear it)
Well I bought another engine. and untill Im done building it I decided
to finally get something my swap didnt come with.
The JDM b16 TPS sensor.
I currently have my usdm b18a ls TPS on there, and It doesnt work.
Vtec wont engage becuase it doesnt read that my throttle is open.
Its throwing code 9. TPS sensor.
and at full throttle it only shows half.
So, Here is my question.
I searched for a JDM B16 TPS.
and all I got were things saying that they all work.
Even the USDM SOHC Vtec tps work on the JDM DOHC
Is this true? Can i just pull one off of a sohc vtec from my local Junkyard
and it work?
Thanks.
Holla!

Just bring your defective B16a TPS to the wrecking yard with you and see if you can find one the same size. Then, you'll also need to bring an ohm meter to see if the TPS you find has the same amount of ohm's when it is positioned both all of the way closed and all of the way open. This should ensure that the voltage range of the sensor is the same.
However, if you find a B16a or B18a TPS, then just get it and don't test it. Just simply try it out. Another thing you'll need to look out for is the fact that Honda will rivet the TPS sensors onto the throttle body, which means that removal is nearly impossible without proper tools. You may need a drill. You could also use a flat-head screwdriver with a hammer to pry out the rivets. Be careful to not break the TPS sensor while doing this.
Assuming that you don't already know, when installed, the TPS should be positioned at 0.5V. This is a standard setting on just about any Honda.
I hope this helps!

well thats just it.
I currently Have my old B18A1 tps on there....
Becuase the Swap didnt come with one at all....
I havnt checked the tps with an ohm meter.
Even if I did, I dont know how to adjust it....
I did the swap. lol but cant adjust the tps...

You would use an ohm meter to check and see if a particular TPS is even remotely close to the B16/B18 TPS as far as specifications.
You need to literally check voltage when setting the TPS to 0.5V.

yeah but what im saying is, if im checking on the B18a and B16'
wish no cars have either in any junkyards
then my b18 should work right?
And that means I can just check mine and Adjust it...

I have a B18 TPS on my B16a PR3 OBD0 motor, and it works fine.
I'm not sure if that is what you're wanting to know.
I set it to 0.5V, and called it a day. However, if your B18 TPS isn't working properly, then you may need to get another one.

And thats my exact setup too.
B18a tps on my JDM b16a PR3 obd0 motor.
Looks like we got it from the same place too.

I'll try that. Thanks.
Well I guess im off to search, no idea
how to set the tps.

Ok so here is whats up.
I adjusted the tps and got it down to about 1.67
Well thats the lowest it would go.
So i took off the tps and mesed around with it.
Well I moved it a lil and put it back on.
And it adjusted from o - 0.36
Well I thought 0.36 was better than 1.6 so I tightened it.
I went for a drive. And It def is different.
It doesnt take nearly as much gas to move.
as in I tap the throttle and it really jumps.
BUT My ecu is throwing a code 7. (TPS)
but my Dash CEL is not on..... IDK.
I didnt reset the ECU.
Should I have?
Im guessing yea......?
I could either dremel the screw hole alil further and get it right were it
should be at 0.45
Or I could do to junkyards and pull a few off a few sohc's But I dont think
they would work.

When I did my B16 swap, I got a code 7 also. I just put my B18 tps on it, set it to 0.5V, and never got the code again. I am assuming that you have a bad tps. however, it is good that you are noticiing a difference when you adjusted the tps to a lower voltage.
Like I said, I simply changed my tps when I got code 7. I have been running it for almost a year now.
I hope this helps!

Alright thanks.
I'll try that here in a few hours.
And I'll pull the other tps off my other motor I just bought.
See how that one works.
I have also had my JDM swap from HMO just over 1 year.
Im unhappy. becuase it smokes like crazy now. bad rings
idk.
