as much as i recommend not using energy suspension bushings, the information is good and well organized.

its now in the FAQ.

btw, front swaybar bushings are 18mm on DX and Si. civic 4dr sedans are 19mm. HF is 17.2mm, which doesnt correspond to the "16mm" nominal size. i have no idea why they offer it as 16mm.

I can give some insight....

I have a set on my crx. Most of the kit is pretty good, but...the bushing for the front lower control arms, make the ride stiff as hell and very harsh on bumps on the street.

Also, you have to be very liberal when applying the grease to them, poly bushing love to squeek. And sometime will require you to pull out a noisy one and re-apply grease time to time. Aside from that, the car will feel super solid, and handle great.

Because you have to replace them every year unless you want to pull them out, clean, and relube them every few thousand miles. They are cheap enough if you are willing to put out the labor.

The reason poly sucks is because it responds like sticky rubber.... thus not allowing unihibited travel of the suspension arms. Notice how hard an LCA to move is once your replace the bushings w/ poly? cause all its doing is binding and grabbing.

For the street, If i ever replace bushings again i'm going hard rubber or just oem rubber. For a race car go spherical. Poly has no use for alot of suspension applications.

i replaced the front and rear LCA's only and it did squeak occasionaly like when going super slow and flexing over a speed bump, but if you drive a lowerd CRX then your ride is prolly already super stiff.

The sway arms though from what i understand are bad to replace with poly because they make the car way to stiff and do not allow enough travel.

so my point is selectively the ES kit isn't bad, but i think the entire kit makes the car way to stiff for daily use.

thanks for the info though it would have been nice to have this before i did my bushing... well maybe not because then i would have put them all in and the car would have been to stiff

Thanks for all the great responses. I was set on purchasing the master set from Amazon for $142. Now I'll probably opt not to.

Does anyone recommend another aftermarket bushing kit?

My 88 rex desperately needs bushings all around!

About how much does this kit run for? Is it more or less expensive than O.E.?

thanks!

also, poly bushings wear out much faster than oem rubber.. in just a couple of years they can become cracked and deteriorated and then you've got extra play in your suspension. Unless its a full on race car, just stick with new OEM bushings, or mugen hard rubber bushings if you want to pay the price for those.

And fwiw, the newer RTA replacement bushing that you can get from honda is a harder rubber (like the mugen piece) than the original ones that came with the car.

???

I know over the years honda will go with different manufactures.
How do you know that the bushing are harder(rubber) than the originals since it's not possible to compare a new "original" bushing with a new one?

Charlie
The part number changed when they swapped.
The new design has more rubber, and is visually different.
Durometer tests have confirmed that the material itself is also stiffer.

I haven't seen a direct comparison to the Mugen pieces. I also don't have the links to back what I wrote, I'm going off of memory here and might be including information I read on another forum. Hopefully I didn't mis-remember anything.

And you could compare the new design to the older design on a new bushing. At one point in time, you could get either of them from the dealer. They should have all been replaced with the new part by now though.

I have since installed the Suja 1 motoring hard rubber kit on my car (all except RTA because I have DA rear trailing arms which got new stock bushings). Awesome, as far as driving the car they feel just as firm as the polys, no squeaking at all.

If someone needs my RTA bushings for an EF I'll sell them Pm me.

Well put together. I also agree with Tyson and the others on ES. There is much better materials out there for the application.
