Default Thoughts on the "Ebay Tri Y"....

Well after getting the shaft from summit racing when I ordered my JG Edelbrock header. I'm now back on the market for a good/great header for my application.

Summit accidentally sent me the wrong damn header (D-series) then when I called them to confront them about it they were more than happy to send me a shipping invoice to send it back but they no longer had any instock .

So now I'm looking for a nice tri y header for the B20b and came across the knock off's on ebay for 200 shipped!! Now it does state that they require some modification to the flange bolt holes due to it being off centered but hell. A tri y is a tri y right? Knock off's on here are going for 5-600 and making the same power (roughly) as the one on ebay.

I'm just wondering if anybody on here has and real hands on expierience with this header or has some real input........

Here's the link to the thread.....

Well if that's all you have to do to save 300 dollars on a high performance step tubed header then it doesnt sound that bad to me. I'm just putting it out there to see if anybody on here has bought one or has some input on it

It looks like even if the holes are opened up, it will leave a bit of room for the header to shift around as the motor shifts around during shifting. Wouldn't this cause the header pipes to become offset?

I believe so but even then for 200 bucks it's still an improvment over some cheapy DC Sports header.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by all-mtr-teg &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">It looks like even if the holes are opened up, it will leave a bit of room for the header to shift around as the motor shifts around during shifting. Honestly it's 1/16-1/8'' of an inch man. How much shifting could possibly happen in that amount of room? I'm a Semi-professional/Amateur Bowler and when my spans are off on a layout I can notice 1/8 but have never notice a 1/16th. So I dont think it would matter that much.

Also, if it was that concerning you could always just make some bushings to put in the space of the hole to make up for the room.

That's what I would like to see.............Some results man not some "what if this/what if that" discussion. Some hard evidence.

Keep us posted man

Well 200 shipped is pretty damn cheap man lol. As far as the difference between the Big tube and Small tube versions, I'll do some further research to see if I can find the dimensions of the 2. I know a small tube starts out with 1 5/8's primaries so I'm assuming that the big tube is either 1 11/16th's or maybe 1 7/8th's? I'll see what I can dig up.

Response from seller

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Hi,

Not all the holes are off. We tested a few and found 4 out of 9 are off by 1/16" to 1/8". It vary very slightly from each header .

I'm sorry no photos of gasket over the header (to show any primary mal-alignment) . All detailed photos 20+ are listed online, the last few showed the misalignments.

Thanks

So that's really not bad at all then honestly. I've installed some other ebay headers on some of our customers cars and those were horrible compared to a "few holes to open up". We had to reweld the flange in spots. Open up the bolt holes, shave the manifold flange so it would seat properly w/out leaking. I mean those are ****, and for these to really just need some adjustments isnt really all that bad considering the price.

I bought one also. I'll get some pics up with a gasket next to it, once it comes in.

The seller told me the primaries are 1.8". We shall see.

Damn...this thread made me drop $199 just a few minutes after reading it LOL!

Can't really lose for $199. I'm pretty much going to get the same thing if I had spent $500 - $600 on another chinese made tri-y knockoff.

Hey...if it works...then good, if not, then the good old JDM ITR header can go back in the car. I could sell the header for $200 again easy if I wanted to.
