Engine Containment Device
Engine diaper or catch-pan device to capture oil and debris in event of engine failure mandatory. Where exhaust header passes directly under oil pan, two piece diaper may be utilized. FWD vehicles using OEM manual-transmission case must also have such a device for the transmission, to capture oil and debris in event of transmission failure. If catch-pan device is used, catch pan must employ minimum 2-inch high lips on all sides. Lips must be coved or curved inward, so as to contain oil in pan. Catch pan must cover entire area below engine/transmission. Catch pan must extend from radiator support to firewall and from framerail to framerail. In all cases, lips must be adequate enough to contain oil in the catch pan. Should a competitor spill excessive oil from the catch pan and debris onto the track, he or she may be disqualified from further competition at the sole and absolute discretion of the event director until catch pan is upgraded, regardless of height of pan lips or pan design.

Its good to keep it known! Most know but some people who just happen to catch it now have to take it into consideration for this season if they want to compete! I know ours is in the process of being made

Its just a reminder. Some teams do not have this on there car yet, and trust there are(not saying who). Would hate to see them not be able to run at a event. We cant get enough cars as it is to run at one.

trust me you arent getting past an nhra tech w/o one. well atleast the events i went to they werent letting anyone in w/o them.

thanks for the reminder, most of us knew about it last year with the old rule. just a height change and a prelude of whats to come next year.

 

If a lot of the hackers out there would build decent cars then this wouldn't even be a problem. It's when you get half *** setups that break on the track and cause rules like this to be enforced.

I think it would be more likely to see tranny fluid on the track the way a lot of these seem to gernade.

Lol, It happens way too much in all of the FWD classes. Its just one of those things that you aren't going to stop when dealing with FWD. Just get your blankets and deal with it. Would you want oil on the track that was leaking out of the car in front of you? Its not a dumb rule at all. Just a major safety issue. Save everyone time, money and keep everyone safe. Stop oiling the track down!!!

We are talking about at a sport compact race. Ever been to any? And we are talking about racecars at that. Have you looked at all NHRA rules? everything has to have a blanket or diaper now. Not just Sport Compact. Everything faster then I think 9.90. Peace

I guess Jason was just trying to point out the lip height change. I know some people that already had containment devices didn't pay much attention and did not notice some of the wording changes. I noticed when it came out and got a diaper to be safe since my pan only had 1" lips not to mention, I know we didn't notice the "radiator to firewall /framerail to framerail" line in the rule. Just wanted to make sure everybody is ready to compete this season.

We have a winner. I was wondering how long this post was going to go on before somebody said that the rule change is in the Height of the edges of the pan.

On another note. I have seen my share of cars from every class oil down the track in my years. i dont think that anybody should be placing blame on any one class. This is a good rule. Not only for the fact that even if the pan does not hold everything that comes out of the motor or the trans it will hold a crap load more than no pan at all. Which means that there will be less oil on the track which inturn means that clean up time will be shorter. which means we can do more racing and less standing around in the staging lanes talking about how the should make a rule that keeps stuff off the track.

When the rules were released there was already a discussion where the lip height and pan size was discussed. but incase anyone missed it its there again just to make sure.
