Default d16a6 dyno results

Went to ICS Performance today in Stamford, CT--great bunch of guys-got a bunch of runs in, my scanner wasn't working and I didn't have a disc so he is going to email me the runs tomorrow--for now I just took pics. of the printouts. Some of you may have seen my results from dyno dynamics dyno about 2 weeks ago--same exact setup only put 157 on dyno dynamics. Realized I was running too much timing before, this setup likes conservative timing. I know its hard to see but final numbers were 180 whp and 139 torque uncorrected, and 166 and 128 SAE. I am very happy, going again to try larger (40mm) chokes which should open up the top end a bit.
setup is:

d16a6 block and head
SRP 4.3cc dome pistons (0.5mm over)
12:1 final compression ( a little taken off head and block)
stock micropolished a6 crank
Eagle rods (5/16")
oem main and ACL rod bearings
Gude Gorilla (HCCS-10 cam) awesome cam-had this cam since 2000!! -flat power curve!!! (large a6 cam, 257 @ 0.050" in, 219 @ 0.050" ex)
Gude headwork, Isky springs, stock valves and retainers
Gude 4-1 header (2.5" collector, 1.5" primaries)
Tsudo 60mm exhaust (2 3/8") (no cat 2.5" flex pipe)
Weber DCOE 45 carbs on TWM manifold (38mm chokes)/short air horns
Electromotive XDI crank fire igntion (no distributor)
Accel carbon core 8mm wires
oem d16z6 3 layer headgasket
oem d16z6 crank pulley/AEM alternator pulley
Pipercross one piece foam filters
Holley "red" fuel pump, Holley low pressure FPR (1-4 psi)
SAE and uncorrected--three best runs:[IMG][/IMG][IMG]

Props to you

I have never seen a sohc make that much torque. thats impressive.

Yeah, I was actually thrilled--these are 38mm chokes I am using in the carbs and its giving me a really non peaky powerband--car feels nice!!!! If you are in the tri-state NY/NJ/CT area I would REALLY recommend these guys--ICS Performance--the owner was having so much fun dynoing my car, I got 2 hours for the price of one!! I must have made 30 runs at least--one after the other....I also have a Hi-tech header I wanted to try but its a side exit drag header and I wanted to disconnect the muffler--next time I will. This was full mufflers, air filters--just how I drive it on the street. 70/30 mix of 100 and 93 unleaded.

Also, I did a number of runs where I didn't change the jetting or timing run to run--and the motor was so consistent--same exact number over and over again. Carbs will do that--once fully warmed up carbs are very consistent.

Car is very, very light--I think high 12s aren't out of the question. There was a scale up the road at a garbage dump that I wanted to try but it was getting late. I have a 78mm block coming soon which should be fun. I did have a 79mm with more compression (13:1) and the same head/cam but I had nothing but problems with it--cylinder walls were just too thin.

Yeah, the curve is very flat at the top--not peaky at all which leads me to believe that the 38mm chokes in the Webers are starting to pose a restriction at high rpm--I think if I try some 40mm and re jet accordingly--it should peak slightly higher. Also, I didn't play with cam timing--right now its roughly straight up considering the head/deck mill. Next time I go I am going to try retarding 1 or 2 degrees cam timing.

ya you should be able to hit 12s with that much HP.
in comparison, my old sohc setup back in 1998 was making at tops 142hp to the wheels. stock A6 bottom end, headwork, our exospeed stage 2 cam, basic I/H/E, with a raised rev limiter. car weighed about 1550w/o me and it hit fastest of 13.6@99mph

then we build a experimental setup(didnt last long though) d16a6, p29 pistons, decked block, used the same head from the car I previously mentioned, stage 3 Exospeed cam, same bolt ons. compression was about 13:1, in a full interior ungutted 89 h/b, that hit 12.90s and after a few runs, it melted a piston, had some injector failure. never got to dyno that one, but i doubt it made more than what your car hit since it was untuned.

so you got a badass setup going there..

Yeah, like I said earlier--I had a 79mm block--with 13:1 compression--1763cc which probably would have given outstanding numbers--but it wouldn't hold together!!! I am getting a 78mm block soon--which should give a bit more power---because I am using the same head with the tiny stock valves--I think a 1720cc motor probably wants a larger valve than what I am using now. On the 79mm bore, I was using the same head, cam and carb setup only with 40mm chokes instead of 38s.

ya if you are doing a bigger bore, more compression, thats when you can go oversize with the valves. on my 1720cc motor, I did a .5mm oversize valves with a 13.5:1 compression custom piston. it all depends on the port work too if you can use that type of valve to even justify using the oversize.

Exospeed---did you get my cam inquiry? I might even drop compression on the 78mm build to like 11.5 so I can run straight 93 comfortably. I run a 100/93 mix now with 12:1.

Very impressive, also took a look at your pics and looks like you have plenty of room between your MC with that pipercross filter.

I just talked to Bill Gude--I know all the stories and I have had my own experiences--but with the a6 he has some good methods--especially the cam, the way the cam is designed is the reason for the flat power curve and big torque.
