Default WTF!! Car painted and is now rusting!! Pics! Am I screwed?

Ok guys, Grab a drink and sit down.

You need to read the entire story to understand everything.

Here we go, No cliffs, aside from paid for paintjob and body work. Perhaps got screwed over.

Ok here is the story,

I needed a paintjob. I was going to take it to a friends of my dads. I had about 700 for a paintjob. i wasnt looking for a real nice job but I didnt want something to get rid of the POS paint I had.

Well a member on here, Ill keep it non known for now untill I figure out whats going to happen. He works at a paint shop and I had met him before and he had helped me out before, was real real cool. and many many people would vouch for him.

He said that he would be willing to paint my car for pretty cheap and that id have to pay for the paint and everything. and that id be real happy and it would come out real great. And that I dont want anyone else doing it.

Well he cam out to the agreement that i would pay $700. $400 for him to spray it. and $300 for the paint and what not. I asked gim what kind of paint. he said Sikkens paint. Grand prix white.
He said He would use and I was paying for, Primer, sealer base coat and clear coat.
Well It needed some body work so i asked him about that.
He said that he would be willing to do the body work for and extra $175 becuz it didnt look like it was that bad. So I decided i would also have him do that becuz if I was going to have it doen why have a crappy body.

at this time I had my old ls motor swap laying on my side deck.
We made a verbal deal and i game him my old ls motor, tranny and ecu
he took $300 off of my price for everything. This way after all I would owe $575

He took my motor and we finished making the deal about what was happening.

Here was the deal.
I give him my car, He does the body work for $175
He would have the car for two weeks and then everything would be done and i could come pick up the car.
I was paying for primer, Sealer, base and clear coat. Sikkens paint (sp?)

Here are Before pics

I dropped my car off and I thought all would be well. This is where I was wrong.
After a week I stopped by to see how the car was coming and talk to him about it.

Here are pictures after two weeks and him saying it was going in for paint that weekend,

At this tiem I was really happy thinking I was going to have a great paint job.

Well after the weekend I called to see if my car was done. He said no, and he wasnt able to get it in and that in the next two days he would have it in and painted.

I called 2 days later, Same thing, he says nope, wasnt able to get it in becuz he isnt doen with the body workj and that its taking him alot longer than he thought. he is hoping to get it done this weekend,

I call that weekend to see if its done he says he is sry its taking him long and that he isnt done. He says he primises it will be done within 3 days.

I call him 3 days later and he says its not done. I pissed. but what am I to do I want my car painted so i say ok fine but try and get it in. he says he will by the weekend.

I call that weekend which was also supose to be a very large meet in TN.

I wasnt done, so I wasnt happy but i said its cool its ok becuz I wanted a good job done.

Well its now been a month. 4 weeks, wice as long as he says it would take.
he says he still hasnt had the time to get it in and that he works all day and is tired at night and he just cant get it in right now.

Im pissed but like before i say ok well man I really need it done quik.
he says he knows and that its ready to go in and that he going to get it in that weekend.

i stop by to see how the car looks before he take it for paint.
Pics 4 weeks after I dropped it off.

so Im happy with the body work but I stil dont have a pinated car and its been twice as long as he said it would take.

Well I call that weekend and once again he says something about he wasnt able to take it in and its not painted yet.

Well TWO more weeks go by and I call. Its now been 6 SIX weeks and i couldnt believe it but he hasnt gotten it in and painted yet.

So after him telling me all these things and excuses and everything it still isnt painted.

I call next week, 7 SEVEN weeks after I dropped i off and he says he hasnt gotten it in yet. This is when i really start to get pissed, I havnt had my car for 7 SEVEN weeks, I am in Highschool and i work.

I have had to get rides to school and work.
Mainly by using my parents cars and my dad even had to take a day off work so i could go to school and work.
He calls me that week to tell me that I can come get my car,
he says he had a friend paint it since he wasnt able to so fast.

7 1/2 weeks latermy car is finally done. I am really happy and excited.

I drive up there and I see it. it looks good. I pay him $575 which I have proof of. he says it still needs to be wet sanded and polished, becuz the paint was dirty.
I drive it home and i love having my car back. the next day I take pics.

Here are pics the next day. I KNOW it needs wheels and 1 peices. I have them waiting to be installed.

well i was happy but I was also Pissed!
He painted my grill, and my Exhaust, and he painted parts of my windows!
well a few days later I was taking the paint off my muffler, and noticed that he didnt get under my bumper!!
there is like a foot size area he didnt paint!
its stained from before still. and its really runny

Well after that I was just like ok whatever.

Oh yeah, he still has my mirrors and door handles, the ones in the pics are extras.

So i drive for a month. Its now. i call him last week and he still doesnt have my mirrors and door handles painted! WTF
so im washing my car today,

And i notice, over the entore call there are RUST Scratches, IM LIKE WTF!!

I called him and of course he didnt answer, left him a message asking if my mirrors and door handles are painted yet, and that the car is rusting and that were going to have to talk about it.

Here are a few pics of the rust. Not good but you can see it.

^^ That doesnt look likle primer, sealer base and clear!!!

So, as of right now I dont know whats going on.

If its going to rust I want my damn money back. WTF. it shouldnt be rusting.
I am going to have to get a new paint job.

He said after body work it was rust free. It had not rust before.

So I dont know what im going to do. Is there anything I can do?

Should I get my money back???

If worse happens should i take it to court? have proof of payment and stuff.

its been a month and the car is rusting everywhere.

What do you guys think? Help me out. for now I wont say the member name. but if he doesnt get back to me His name ( user and real )wil be everywhere.

looks like somebody either welded or was grinding next to your fresh paint. your car isn't rusting but the metal flakes and or slag is that is on your car. it's happened at my shop before by this new body man that didnt' pay attention to where his sparks were flying.

*edit and you pretty much have to sand down and spray again to fix that.

its on the entire car.
And this isnt going to fly. So... IMHO I deserve a new paintjob.

Am i wrong?

Edit: in the first pic that my hatch open. if he was that close damn. then they got between the hatch and body.

Looks like metal shavings from bodywork+moisture= those types of rust spots on top of the paint.

sockEG6 said it man... looks like grinding castoff landed on your paint.... wetsand it with 1200 grit, then 1500 grit, then polish it out. or just get it professionally detailed. here in Windsor, because of the Ford foundry air pollution, Ford pays for all their employee's cars to get cleaned up once per year due to the exact same thing... tiny specs of rust.

Well Pedro, I know who your talking about and let it be known that this person is also a sponsor that has alot of customers who never got what they paid for. If I am dick for saying that then so be it.

On to the issue at hand. I personally would say he owes you your money back just because it took him 3 times as long to paint it then he said originally. Second he should have your damn mirrors and handles back to you know. That shouldn't take 3 months to paint. I personally would call him and tell him that you want your money, motor, mirrors, and handles back. If he says no and I'm sure he will you might want to threaten legal work. Or you could go to his work and find out who his boss is. Most people that work in shops (that I know) are not allowed to do side work and confront him telling him you want him to fix your car and give you the rest of your **** back.

Let me know who everything goes. If you need someone to paint it there is a guy that paints at a shop here in my town at night after closing (his brother owns the shop and lets him use it). He only charged Anthony like $600 for his integra and it was done in TWO ******* days. And you know first hand how good of a job it is. You never saw it when it was pink/faded red/white.

You got my number, call me if you need anything.

looks like he sanded with a brillo pad and it left moisture under the primer and that moisture decided to rust up.

i know a really good lawyer if you are in need, and i do say you are in need, i know who you are talking about ive seen nothing but good work from him, no wonder he hasnt been on here for quite a while, glad i didnt have him do mine. sux you had to be one of the guinnea pigs.

Primer wont hold out moisture anyways, its porous.

exactly, he sanded with a brillo pad and when you do this it leaves tiny bits of metal in the surface, it holds moisture, then after all is said and done it looks exactly like his car does.

even if he did get it polished that **** is rust (from metal) dirt doesnt cause rust, unless it was dirt from a metal scrap yard.

Uhmm... theres nothing wrong in sanding with a brillo pad. I do that everytime I paint a surface, you blow off the debris with a airgun, problem solved. It wont hold moisture down on its own, besides paint will eliminate the moisture on the surface. Problem in this guys case is that when the paint was drying someone used a grinder/something that caused small metal flakes to land on the painted surface. Now embedded on the surface it would ofcourse be in contact with air, and air has moisture, thus rusting.
wetsanding it, or using polishing compound will rub them out, therefor eliminating the small rust specs for good. The particles are VERY small, the area looks bigger than the particle, because rust has a tendency to spead.

Pedro, with him working at a dealership he isn't allowed to do side work, so confront him in front of his boss.
As for legal action I would say go for it, however that could take forever. He can get continuences and when he does finally show he will more than likely stiff you and then what are you going to do. If you do ever get paid it will be so damn far down the road that it almost won't even be worth it.
As for the guy the OP is refering to, he does do good work, I have seen his work in person. However it appears that his friend isn't as good and he is, and for being a dick for taking 4 times as long as orignally stated and still not being done with the damn mirrors and door handles.

Call him and tell him you want your **** back done or not then go to his work and tell him he did a shitty job with his boss in ear shot.

I work at a dealership and my boss doesnt care if we do sidejobs in house.
Eitherway tell the guy to fix it, there is no excuse for that **** happening

I'm sure not all dealerships are like that, but the one I worked at didn't allow it and the honda dealership by my house doesn't allow it without permission. And tha's in house or anywhere. A friend of mine has done a few things in house with permission and some at his house without.
