Default FAQ: Kumho Tire Lineup

Thanks to our resident minister of information (nsxtasy), here is a rundown of the offerings from Kumho:

Ecsta SPT - excellent all-around summer tire
Ecsta Supra 712 - crappy summer tire
Ecsta 711 - even crappier summer tire
Ecsta MX - excellent summer tire on dry pavement (rapid treadwear though)
Ecsta V710 - excellent track tire
Ecsta AST - crappy all-season tire
Ecsta ASX - excellent all-season tire (although in moderate to warm temperatures, all-seasons don't perform as well as even crappy summer tires - that's the trade-off for being able to also use them on snow and in frigid cold)

Also, if you're getting Kumho tires, keep in mind that their $40 rebate offer expires at the end of this month.

Other tire brands also have names that they apply to many different tires in their lineup:

BFGoodrich - g-Force (and g-Force T/A)
Bridgestone - Potenza
Dunlop - SP Sport
Goodyear - Eagle (and Eagle F1)
Hankook - Ventus
Michelin - Pilot (and Pilot Sport)
Toyo - Proxes
Yokohama - AVS (and Advan Neova)

For the SPT in 205/55/15, the sidewall's comfortable. Not too stiff and I've autocrossed my set a couple times.

Not sure who this yahoo is and why he seem to be all knowing, but my comment (from someone who's actually put some miles on one of the mentioned tires), is that my experience with 711 would seem to indicate that for the money it's a great tire (note the "for the money" qualification). With the stock supension (or even with the Koni adjustables set low that I have), this tire will provide all the performance that you'll need.

you're probably better off just going to your local tire shop and getting the 4 for $100 deal than spending money on 711s. they are awful, awful tires.

That yahoo who you are referring to is the honda-tech tire guru but of course you wouldn't know that!

Also, I had a set of 711 and they are the worse tire someone could get. They are terrible in the rain and have no dry traction at all. For the price you say... I paid 25$ for the SPT and its a night and day difference in the wet and in the dry!

And at $74 shipped for a 205/45R-16, they're right on the money.

Do you know anyplace, a reliable dealer or shop, to purchase/install Ecsta ASX around the DC area? checked couple of shops ntb, merchants and found they don't deal with kumho. Where they do deal with it, they seems unreliable.

The fusion are horrible compared to the SPT!

They are not on close-out... They are just selling really fast and that is why they don't have any!

I sent an e-mail to Kumho asking them about the status of the SPT. This is their response:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Kumho Customer Service &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">No, the SPT is not being discontinued. It is one of our most popular patterns. This pattern is only 2 years old and it replaced our ever-popular Ecsta 712. I do not know why Tire Rack would have this tire as a ‘Closeout’ item. </TD></TR></TABLE>
