Very Very sad day for my ek hatch with gsr swap Water sucked messed up my compression ratio
WEll guys this is very sad story for me. I just bought this 96 ek silver hatch with 97 usdm gsr swap. Got compression done by mechanic 185 all four cylinders. Clean runs good. Until this Sunday,
My ek hatch is bone stock gsr motor with aem intake short ram, with obd 1 p72 chipped ecu. Im driving Sunday in the rain normally, all of sudden, my car shuts off. I was like what the expletive, The car started the bogging, I give it gas and it shuts off. I was able to restart but the car hesitates and dies again. So Monday, morning i barely drove it to shop to get it checked out. He diagnose and took my ecu, ecu was flooded with water, wtf???. Dizzy was fried. So he lets the ecu dry out in the sun, while i wait for the dizzy i ordered from New York. Im pretty pissed now since my car has been sitting in shop since MOnday morning. Finally got the dizzy in today, popped in car starts, but feels really slow, per Mechanic, noticeable loss in power. He test drives it back to shop and does compression test 1 and 2 cylinders are 125 compression wtf?? and the other 3 and 4 155. Mechanic calls me up and spread the bad news. I just bought this car with good gsr healthy motor and now i need rebuild.
Here are pics of my ek hatch, which i was going to sell for good price, but decided to go na and rebuild the motor with itr pistons/itr valvetrain for daily driver. This really sucks, since it will cost me arm and leg. What do you guys think i should do rebuild?? or sell the whole car part it, i rather sell as whole for right price, has lots of goodies, but i love my ek hatch and rather keep it. Right now, hatch is sitting in shop, head is coming off tomorrow unless someone wants to take it away for good price. Does this make sense guys? My compression can drop significantly all of sudden and i dont even it rev it pass 6k since i own the hatch. Here are pics of it
My mechanic said he can do parts labor for around 2k with itr parts.
What would you honda guys do . Sorry about the grammar, im just down right now because i miss my hatch and may end up losing her,

I just dont understand how very little water can ruin my compression or could ever sneak in my engine and mess up the compression

There's no reason to get rid of the car.
You have a hot combustion chamber, and cold water gets sucked in. Of course it will do damage. Most likely you have bent rods. Don't run the car, before you have a rod through the block.

Im not running the car, it is at the shop now. Its weird how water got on my short ram intake and my ecu. I didnt have a splash shield on the bottom. Damn it sucks. WOuld you guys rebuild or sell it or should i just swap motor. Block looks fine , no holes

Im gonna rebuild with integra type r parts pistons rods etch and type r valvetrain. What do you guys think? Can you explain how water can mess up my compression when im running short ram intake

It was raining hard on Sunday here in Cali and i drove on Freeway and may hit a huge puddle not sure, It was dark outside
i dont have time to work on it myself, i work everyday. This mechanic knows alot about hondas. He has fully built honda civic si pushing 400whp running 11's Plus he has a dyno jet at his shop and does dyno also.
This guy hooks me up and takes care of my car. I was there when he did compression. Come on the car died on my on the street. Im not sure if it because i dont have splash shield underneath. i was also missin ga plug close to door where the ecu is expose
I don't understand how that happened, esspecially w/ a short ram.
I live in WA and drive in the rain all the time, occasionally I'll even hit a large puddle or what not. But I've never sucked up water, or flooded my ECU.
You must have hit a small lake or something.
Sucks, but it's a nice excuse to build that GS-R motor.

As long as I dont have to take out any more Metal Gears

for 2000 u might as well buy another b18c, or if u want to have ITR internals, then just buy the parts and DIY, it will be less than 1000 The only thing u may need a shop to do it hone the cylinder walls.
shitty deal man.....i feel for you.....damn must have been a big puddle or something because usually your pretty safe with a short ram
relocate your ECU to your glovebox (i always used to pull mine for protection against theft) and get a splash guard. somehow I do not think that your short ram sucked it all the way up though, something had to splash in some other way :-\ good luck bro.
Wait how is this even possible?? Your ECU lets start there....in your car (inside the car is dry) under your carpet(carpet would absorb any moisture if any present inside the vehicle ) And the ECU was seald up by the 5 screws........
Next Up The Intake....
Ok short ram everyone knows, its not like a Cold Air that goes down in the fender well that is asking for hydo locking to occur. And you have a splash guard...just in case covering all your bases good thinking. But you dont remember hitting a puddle, and it was dark... Thats fine we all have been there at one time . But you made it to his shop ?
Ok I dont think it hydro locked(i am not ASE Certified) I do have a Couple of questions for you.
Did you (not your boy) see the water inside the ECU casing yourself?
Did you make it shop with a "bad" dizzy?
And what did you tell your mechanic?
Lets figure this out
