Default '79 Civic 1200...

Sorry if this has been covered, I wasn't even sure what to search for, or if this is even the correct section.

I'm thinking of picking up a '79 Honda Civic 1200 as a fun little beater... Are there any swaps available for this model? The car would be great with an LS/VTEC, just not sure how to go about it with this car.

Any help is appreciated.

I remeber seeing one with a Z6 swap in it on here. I'm not sure if anything really colts in or anythign, and there is no mount kits available. So I'm pretty sure it is up to you and your fab skills. I personally think a K20 1200 would be sweet!

Hmmm... I was looking, it doesn't really look like it'd be that hard to fabricate some mounts (Not for my fabrication skills, which is none, but I'm know some people that could do it) for a B-Series.

I guess the only way to do it would be to swap the entire front electrical system from an EG or DC, which is no problem, I have all of that stuff in a box from an LS we just parted out. I think it'd be a fun project, I'd just like a BIT of information before I dive into it... I'd hate to ruin a classic like this.

Once again, ANY information is greatly appreciated.

if I had a shop or a garage I'd be so all over a older 78 or 79 civic to fix up.

There's a nice article in the new Sport Compact Car about this car and a guy called Honda Bob. Apparently they upped the compression and fixed some oiling issues and were running the stock motors at 10.5k all day, putting out 120hp.

Harsh!

It'd be a hell of a project to swap in a B or even a D. Axles, hubs, mounts, wiring gremlins, space, etc. would all need to be sorted out.

My biggest concern would be axles and the alignment of them.

a d16 would be sick in there....From what I can tell the body is in good condition. I'd do it.

Looks like I might be picking the car up today... I've been looking at how hard it would be to fabricate a surge tank for the Carb, and just boost it on 3-4lbs... It'd be interesting, but I think I'd be able to break 100whp.

The car put down 59.6whp a year ago when the previous owner had it.

Here's the car a year ago...

I think swapping the car will be a bit too much work for me right now... In a few years when I have more time, I'll probably do a sick K-Series or soemthing, but for now, I'll leave the stock engine in, and just beat the Hell out of it, haha.

I may dive into boosting it here soon... I'll keep you guys posted.

Looks pretty clean. Those 1200's have a classic charm to them.

they made a 1500 version didn't they?

I know Mark Jackson (or whatever the Jackson Racing guy's name is) Used to swap the old accord of prelude motors in there. A nicely set up 1500 or 1600 should easily break 100whp

SURE SURE Ninja I don't think you need that you will probably chop it in half like my mozzarella sticks.

GO-FIGHT-KILL sounds like a awesome project. I hope you can pick it up and roll with it.

It is Oscar Jackson just to clarify, and it was the Prelude motors. That is old hat though. Swap a K in there. I know it can be done.

Bart, Bart, Bart........why does everything in your world have to have a big "K" spraypainted all over its hide? Do you tag a deer like that?

C'mon man, give the old school a little respect man....I'd go carbbed mid 80's prelude motor with two dual webbers and some nasty port work..

Oh I'd love to swap a Prelude engine in there... Which Prelude engine though, the old carb'd B20s?

Anyone have any idea where I can find information about this swap?

It was older than the B20's

those were the 2nd gen preludes. I'm sure the motor was from the 1st gen
