Valve's!! What would you go with?
Just curious to hear from some people on what they run for valves and why. I am concidering using just a set of stock Type-R valves for my N/A application. Of course I have also concidered a set of stainless. Again just wondering what would be some reasons for one or the other. Any pro's and con's? Search did not turn much up. Any imput would be great. Thanks
keep in mind i'm not knocking any aftermarket valves, because i've never experienced them firsthand, but i hear that some will tend to break more than bend. skunk2 is the main brand that i've heard that from, that i find dissappointing because i love skunk2 stuff, anyway, if you break a valve, that's not good, you'll more than likely **** up more than just the valve iteslf, but if you just bend one, like stocks will do, you'll probably just need to replace the valve. it all depends on the cams that you're running, if it's something real big, research into your purchase of valves to see how durable they, just *in case* (we can only hope that won't happen) you have valve to piston contact.
Yes! The bend vs break situation was one of the reasons I have been holding back on which to use. I am using a set of Toda D's in the motor. I had a head mocked up and clayed. I am good for clearences through a range of cam gear adjustment. I was going to run the ITR stuff but was unsure how they may hold up as compared to the stainless stuff. I mean if the clearence is there then I should not see a problem with either valve type in terms of contact. Maybe the stock won't be up for the pounding? Thanks for your imput.
on the itr, there is only a difference in the intake valves(they're lighter) than stock b16a or b18c valves. no need to buy new exhaust valves as they are the same. if you plan on building it up completely for boost or high compression, then i would look into the ferrea. expensive but worth it.
Yeah the Ferrea stuff looks like very nice stuff for sure. With the ITR intake valves being lighter then say the intake valves in a B16A head are they also lighter then the aftermarket stainless valve's out there? I assume they are. Anyone know? I mean if the stock stuff has no problems doing the job and the intake valves are lighter then the aftermarket stainless versions then I just may use OEM stuff. Any other opinions?
